I really don't think he needs crossfire. Like really don't think. A 7950 will do fine.
He also will do fine without a SSD.

Man, I had a 486dx2 or something when I was 14, er correction it was my dads!

A build with crossfire 7950s, lawl. Kids today...

I think that sounded a bit like the old story of walking to school up hill, both ways.

Don't think we are getting trolled. if he is getting B's and C's and is in grade 9 the English is understandable. Jobs can be had easily enough depending on how bad you want it (just referring to unskilled labour). I had my first job at 14 (canada) working retail, canadian tire. you are probably going to have next to no expenses at this point so you can likely rack up cask REALLY quick. ( I made like 4 grands in 5 months just working part time). try and actually save some of your money in case you do actually end up going to college. ask your parents for the money, if they say no offer to split it. if they still say no work for it. good luck and welcome.

I'm 17, I just went through this stuff. What I did:

-first computer with an internet connection in my room (that's when things really opened up for me, I had computers in my room growing up but never an internet connection) but it was a low-end first gen netbook, so it was pooooooop
-first real computer was a freebie from a neighbor who was grabbing old parts from his job and building boxes also not that good
-wrassled with my first real tower constantly and learned a bunch about what not to do (through plentiful mistakes)
-read stuff online constantly, on OCN, Tom's Hardware, "window-shopping" on Newegg, reading reviews on things, etc.
-used my knowledge and experience to troubleshoot friends' computers and do builds for them (i was still broke)
-did a toooon of yard work and got $1000 over summer, used that to buy a high-end laptop
-next summer got an internship at an IBM Linux technology center (had never used Linux before)
-now current day, I'm still getting used computers from people, getting parts and giving them to friends that need them
-I've really gotten into Linux and it's amazing

So, that's my story, maybe that will give you ideas for what you want to do in life. When you're young it's tough to put things into words and solid, consolidated... thoughts? I'm still young too tongue.gif

PM me if you have any questions or wanna talk.

I recommend: Find real-life computer geeks and talk to them, befriend them. Get a laptop (something with more than 1 hour of battery life, specs at least a dual core or else you're gonna get sick of it). Get a used computer if you can. Install Linux and mess around with it. Make a lot of mistakes.

Hello, I'm 14 and I'm hoping to combine my birthday and my Christmas present for a gaming computer. I get B's and C's in school mainly and also sometimes A's when a big test rolls around. I want to be able to buy it shortly after Christmas this year and then be able to pay off about $800 over the next year or two. I live with my mom and step dad with 2 other siblings in a medium/large sized house. I would consider my family middle class and we usually can afford a lot of stuff. At this time of the year a lot of dental stuff has been going on with my step brother and sister. My sister got surgery today and my step brother got braces a week ago, his mom is paying most of the funds but there is also the surgery funds for my sister. I got an ATV a couple of years ago but I hardly get the chance to ride it (I only ride it about 2/3 times a year on sand dunes). My step brother and step dad seem a lot more interested in riding theirs and I like to ride mine but the time hardly ever comes. My dad thinks that we should sell it since I barely get the chance to ride but my step dad and mom would disagree. I can say that I agree with my dad because if we sold that then I'd be able to get 2 gaming PC's at the price it's worth, but I would only get one. I have confronted my parents about the PC but not the selling of my ATV.
My plan would to be for my mom/step dad to buy the gaming PC and then my dad to buy me the monitor. I want to build the PC myself since I have a wide knowledge about that stuff above my parents and siblings. The computer with the desk costs about $1200 and then the rest is about $300 (my dad would pay for the $300). I also plan to make a future in using computers to do stuff. I like the idea of game commentating but I'd most likely end up working with VALVe since I live about 10 miles from one of their buildings. I also want to make maps for Source games and the just recently launched Far Cry 3. Since my dad does not even know much about it I'm mainly asking him for an Astro A40 for Christmas since he has won some money gambling.
I have not really mentioned it too much to my parents since I'm guessing they will surprise me with a Hewlet-Packard or something like that. I don't imagine them doing that though because they know that I want to build it and I've also explained that building is far superior to buying pre-built. I'd also sell some of my old childhood toys since I still have quite a few and there are some poorer families who can't afford some of the newer toys. My family also has a garage sale every year.
One thing I've kept in my mine is this "If it's worth having then it's worth working for" Which makes sense because you have to work to get anything in life and I'm ready to do so. I do think that my parents will surprise me by having my log on to our computer and then show them the list of stuff since I've come to know my parents are like to surprise us (Exactly how I got my ATV).
When I got my ATV my step dad asked me to help him in the shed and then he opens it and pulls out a brand spanking new Yamaha Raptor 250. It would also be nice to know about what some good jobs would be for a kid my age.

Why are you telling us your grades and what siblings etc you have?

RELEVANT INFORMATION PLEASE.
