GPU crazy temp spike

Thread Starter
I have a 4850, which typically sits around 41C at idle at stock, 68 load. For some strange reason, it jumped to 92C idle, for only a few seconds, after which it slowly dropped down to normal temps. I figured HWM bugged out and tried the "human test" to make sure. Ouch. Couldn't even touch the backplate for more than a split second.

What could have caused something like this? The cooler is seated perfectly fine, my case has excellent airflow, and everything is dust free --I have not had any temp problems previously or after this incident.

I guess it's not really a big deal. I'm just really curious.
