[KitGuru] Crowd funding for legal action against Facebook - Page 6

I can understand why they're doing this, but it's rather idiotic. YOU decided you wanted to use Facebook. YOU agreed to the terms (which no one with a sane mind thoroughly reads but knows he's probably getting screwed one way or another anyways), so deal with it. You're still in control of what you post and thus on what kind of details you're wanting to make public.

Yea any legal action that is successful would have to be against the whole "legaleze is not user-friendly" and that pretty much amounts to regulating the wording of every law or contract ever written, and thus is a waste of effort no matter how much money you can throw at lawyers. Not to mention that they will not likely take the case since they spent hard years in law school learning to have an advantage over the common folk in the judicial arena.

Oh well.

It's not as simple as saying "Don't use it" when its the single most used social tool on the internet right now.
Open your eyes to reality, no matter how horrible it may be.

The reality that the world communicated just find for hundreds/thousands of years prior to the existence of Facebook, and will continue to do so after Facebook is gone?

EDIT:

Oh, and I am pretty confident in the fact that I can launch my e-mail and send a message quicker than someone can get online, log into Facebook, pull up that contact, and send a message.

EDIT 2:

The fact that people are willing to sit here and say that Facebook, the worlds largest data mining operation, is required for life makes me lose hope for humanity. I always knew that the masses were simply Sheeple....

It's not necessary, it's just extremely inconvenient not to use it if you're a student and wish to be made aware of all the events that are going on. How do you propose 200+ people communicate? By sending texts? emails? I'm pretty sure those 200 students wont take you into consideration if you're the only one that doesn't want to use facebook. Sure you can always just ask someone what info there is on facebook at the moment but do you really consider that practical?

For example my class has a group on facebook with all 126 people in it. If I didn't have an account I wouldn't have a say when they're discussing throwing a party somewhere, ordering something together, organizing an event etc. I would also get info about all that stuff later than I will when I have the account. And it's not that they're bad people and not worth associating with just because they wont conform to every little wish a single member of the group has.

So yes, it's not necessary, it's just extremely practical for modern students.

If you ever had a picture taken of you, there is a good chance you are on facebook, whether you have a account or not.

back on topic... when you have a billion users in your signed up data base you better believe all your polices are simple and direct. a billion from all walks of life you can't just have vague policies, rules etc...

I agree with the "If you don't like Facebook, don't use it" idea, but there is one problem with it. Facebook has CHANGED their agreements so many times since I first signed up, that the agreement that I actually agreed to has LONG since gone.

Having said that, I do think they should make it easier for you to "wipe your data and quit". I have spent the past 3 hours doing that by hand ... it is a major pain in the butt. But once it's done, I will keep VERY LITTLE on Facebook if I don't just close it.

Facebook has grown way beyond what it once was, and become a data mining beast that is being exploited with shady agreements.

You require it if you know no one with a phone, and have no physical interaction with them ever. I Use Facebook about once a week to talk to someone overseas because overseas fees are avoidable. Plus if i can manage to get to a party somewhere which has spread due to word of mouth or use the radio even to find out about things instead my newsfeed then i'm set.
