I am new to overclocking and this is my first build. I saw the C2D processors and so i decided intel over amd. My budget is 1200 dollars.

CPU: E6400 or E6600
Motherboard: ASUS P5B-E
Videocard: NVIDIA 7950GT
PSU: Undecided
RAM: Undecided
Case: Undecided

Please suggest any changes that i should make and wat is the best ram for overclocking? I want to overclock my processor to at least 3 GHZ.

you will not be disappointed going with a C2D setup, here is what i recommend:

CPU: E6600 - 310
Motherboard: ASUS P5B-DLX - 175
Videocard: NVIDIA 8800GTS - 470
PSU: OCZ 700W or PCP&C 750W - 110
RAM: Buffallo Firestix, they use D9GMH chips and will OC really well - 240
Case: Up to you budget depending, but the TT cases are nice, as are the Lian Li and Antec Cases.

Total: 1300... i will scale back in a second lol

CHANGES:

CPU: E6600 - 310
Motherboard: ASUS P5B-DLX - 175
Videocard: NVIDIA 7900 GT - 230
PSU: OCZ 700W or PCP&C 750W - 110
RAM: Buffallo Firestix, they use D9GMH chips and will OC really well - 240
Case: P180b 125

Total: 1190 + shipping brings you in right at 1200

Edit if this is a total build you need HDD's and DVD drives and FLoppy Drives, and Cooling as well... don't forget about those! they can add up fast!

whoa... you're gonna go DX 10?!?
don't waste you money on the 7900 now.. and especially not the 7950!!
get yourself a nice 7600 GT, and volt mod it... then go with the 8800 GTS in a few months!

Edit: also check back when you go to purchase send us links to the items you want... so we can double check they're the right ones... don't wanna make a little mistake at teh last second like ide HDD's instead of SATA2 or something

I was lookin at this 7600GT from BFG Tech:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143049

I think in a few months, the DX10 card prices will drop too! Oh and i once saw some OC'in guides in this site. Any links to those will be appreciated!
I see u have an 8800GTS! How is it? Worth the money? Im thinkin starting the rig now, and maxing it when vista releases. So, the products are:

E6600: http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819115003(308$)

LItE-ON DVD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827106019(31$)

ASUS P5B-DLX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131045(182$)

Buffalo Firestix: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820150054(241$)

OCZ 700W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817341002(134$)

Western Digital 250GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136010 ($59)
Grand Total: $ 955!!!

Hey i can add another 250gig for 59 and add it in raid0 for a 500gig.

Ok one question: The CAS Latency on Buffalo is 5. Isnt lower better? Pardon the OC'in ignorance
