Wanting to update to 16GB

Thread Starter
I'd like to go from 8 to 16GB. I'm not that happy with the RAM I currently have. It's kind of finicky and I would like a set that would OC nicely and let me loosen up the timing a bit.

I'm looking at this kit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231560

How are those?

Personally, I would like to stick with 2x 8GB as opposed to 4x 4GB. In addition they have to be low profile to work with my cooler. Current rig is in my sig.

Those should work fine. I'd be getting those if I didn't want to have high-profile memory thumb.gif

Get two of these 8 GB kits. It's cheaper and it overclocks like a beast.

The Samsung Ram will overclock the best, most people have gotten them to 2133MHz+

I personally would not grab those Ares, I think they are a tad overpriced. I got my RAM on sale for $40 a set(2x8)....

What are you doing right now that utilizes more than 8GB of RAM? RAM Disks? VMs? Editing?

Would it be worth it to get 4 sticks instead of 2? I always thought it would be easier to work with two sticks. I may be mistaken though.

As for what I do. Yeah, 8GB suffices kind of, but why not? RAM is nicely priced and I wanted to ditch this set I have now.

I second the Samsung RAM recommendation and you will notice that my experience indicates that 4 DIMMs and a 1055T is no less a piece of cake than 2 DIMMs.

At this point 2x8GB kits are far too expensive for most situations, esp. considering that passing 16GB of RAM usage (let alone 8GB) is rare.

Well.... there's not really any need for a test. Unless you want...maybe, CPU-Z validation? AIDA64 screenshot?

My signature config shows that I have a 1055T with 4x2GB of DDR3. The 1055T is overclocked to 4Ghz with a 3Ghz northbridge, the RAM at 1600Mhz with enhanced timings.
