It looks like OCCT has an AVX option on the linpack test. I will let that run for a while, it would be nice to see the GFlops output to confirm but oh well.

just wanted to thank you I am planning on upgrading my 6300 to this 8350 and I really want to get into overclocking with it I'm brand new to this environment

and wouldn't have ever thought of this (course I'm aiming to begin with 4500 MHZ as I'm using the Tt OCK)

but that is besides the point I do plan an upgrading even further to a corsair H100I eventually I just want to try air first and I already have the cooler XD ._.

so again thank you for letting me realize that it could be a defective CPU (read a review on it where he could only get to about 4500MHZ with the OCK almost 4600MHZ wondering if this could have been his issue)

thanks again :3

Yeah, I don't think I have the right version of IBT then. That's good to know about OCCT.

I had posted this yesterday,

My PC freezes when overclocked, no BSOD, crash or anything else, just freeze.
No matter what clock or voltage.
Tried a lot of different settings & it would freeze even at Idle(Internet browsing).
I followed the exact steps of THIS guide & tried to run 4.2GHz @ 1.425V, Freeze.
set my manual voltage to 1.39(which it showed as stock) & my CPU ratio & multi both on auto, & it still freezes.

What am I doing wrong?

Now I know my board is not good for overclocking, but I 'm not aiming for a a high overclock. I believe this board should be able to at least run @ 4.2Ghz.
Is my chip really that bad?

Like I said while browsing the Internet & also while Using photoshop/regular work. I played Starcraft II for like 2hrs, I closed it, opened firefox & it froze after browsing for a few minutes.

I've been running on DOCP while @ stock CPU settings and it works just fine.
Whilst overclocking I'd set it to manual, didn't touch any of DRam settings.
At first I followed the guide and set my CPU NB @ Auto & CPU NB V @ Auto
then i tried what the guide suggested, & set my CPU NB @ 2200 & CPU NB V @ 1.2 (which was shown by my BIOS), I also tried 1.25v
Multi OC. No FSB

If I stress test @ stock my max core temp is 46C & If I set my stock voltage & clock manually the max temp goes up to 55C. @ 4.2 it was 58C.
I don't understand why the significant temp increase, when the voltage & Clock speed both are still the same.
I once managed to complete 10 runs of IBT @ Standard @ 4.4Ghz But it froze after a few minutes of regular work. doh.gif

I would like to get your thoughts on it.
Can I get it RMA'd ?

Hi Ashura. Did you mean to post this in the Asus OC Guide?

I would say if you are having Freezing issues and not BSOD/Resets it could be RAM related.
So I'm not sure if you have enough info to warrant a CPU RMA.

I would start with only running 2 sticks of RAM. Load the optimal defaults in the BIOS - save and restart.

Stress the computer like that - OCCT, Prime, IBT, whatever you like to use.

Then follow the OC Guide again. If it's still having issues, you can PM me for help.

Cheers.

I posted that on the 8350 club thread.
I thought of posting it hear too, cause you were discussing stability issues here & I wanted your Opinion as well tongue.gif

My RAM works fine, when my CPU is @ stock.
But still, I'll try overclocking with just one/two stick of RAM.

Now that I'm thinking about it, IF it works with one stick , then what? confusedsmiley.png

@ Ashura - Do you know the batch #? I had random freezing problems that led to me RMA'ing. After replacing I have had zero issues; no other changes to my configuration.

By all means follow the advice you have been given before thinking about a return.

Then I would make sure both sticks are not defective (by running each of them one at a time), and if both sticks are good, I would assume a bad IMC or something and request an RMA for the chip. It is either that or the motherboard is bad.

4 sticks of RAM will stress the IMC more and if it's weak it will crack. You can also try lowering the frequency of your ram and raising CPUNB. If you have to do either, I would still RMA the chip. However, if you go to RMA and you tell them that the CPUNB takes 1.35v to be stable as opposed to "MY CHIP SUX I WANT A BETTER ONE THAT OVERCLOCKS BETTER!" you'll have much better luck exchanging.

Conclusion

Do not expect huge increases in FPS. Overall I do feel that programs are snappier, and that games run more smoothly. Is it an upgrade, yes. Are you going to be impressed maybe. However, at stovk it is possible to get results roughly equivalent to OC'd Thubans, at a lower power draw.

Finally remembered to look back at your testing to see if it was finished. Great work, very informative.

I agree that everything seems to run smoother. My other test systems were an i5 2500k and Phenom II X4 965. The FX 8350 at stock, has lower Max FPS than my i5 at 5.0Ghz, but overall it just seems to run like it's much faster.

Hi all, I have an 8350, which I was going to OC.
However, I was going to test performance first using LinX, but when the CPU is at 100% load, and reaches around 42*c, all cores underclock to 1.4Ghz?
Is there a BIOS setting that can stop this from happening? I can't OC if I can't test for stability and heat output now, can I?
Motherboard is AsRock 970 extreme3 (BIOS P1.70) if thats helpful to anybody.
