The i7 is better in every single way, there is no reason to say the 8350. Thats just honest.

ALMOST better in every way. It also costs $120 MORE! That could be the difference between a 660ti and a 680, or a 7870 and a 7970. A better video card will make for a better gaming experience than a better CPU, and thats just being honest.

What if you kill your 3770K trying to de-lid it to even get to 4.9 because of the crappy job intel did with the IHS? THAT is when reality will really set in redface.gif

I definitely not a silicon lottery winner, my i7 3770k originally can only stable at
4.5 ghz with 1.28v, LL2, Tubro +0.04 in BIOS, where CPU-Z shows 1.256v under full load.
And IBT gave 94C max during a very high 10 run test, similar result 95C was given by Prime 95 latest version. This is with AS5 applied between CPU and Cooler.
My cooler is Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2, which I believe is a good air cooler, maybe not the best.
After read thousands of thread from this form, it is seems proved that Intel did a very bad job with TIM used for IVB.
So, I decide to de-lid my 3770k which was indeed very risky and made me so nervous............

You are correct in that a person can spend the money on whatever they want. But watercooling is pricey (I'm on my 4th fully watercooled rig and know what I am talking about), so I think it is wisest to try and get the greatest longevity outof the blocks, etc. Although this applies to gpu's more than cpu's.
The AMD processor might keep up when it is heavily overclocked, but a 3770k at 4.0 GHz is not oc'ed much. Run those numbers when it is at 4.5-4.8 and it will pull ahead. If you compare them at stock clocks (which seems fairer than running mismatched oc's) the 8350 loses.

We are all better off if AMD can compete with Intel. I ran AMD cpu's when they were better, but I switched when that changed.

Cheers

No doubt! Water cooling is fun as hell, especially when you do it on the cheap (see my bucket watercooling). I have no doubt that an i7 at 4.5 can outperform an 8320 at 5.0, but were all forgetting that AMD currently has nothing intended to compete the i7, hence the $120 price difference. Too many people also overlook the fact that an upgrade in GPU will have a more significant and direct impact on gaming than a CPU. If im on any kind of a budget that does not allow for a 7970 or a 680, but allows for a 3770k, then I got my build priorities ass backwards. Who can disagree that an 8320+7970 makes for a better gaming rig than a 3770+7870?

What if you don't need to delid the 3770k? Then overclock it to 4.4ghz, that's when reality sets in tongue.gif also when you find out even 5ghz on AMD wont come close. You don't even need to delid to beat AMD's in overclocking for performance.
