Thread Starter
To get the best performance out of 4-6 HDDs in RAID being used for storage/backup, what is the RAID I want to go for?

Not a whole lot of info, but ask me and il do my best

Thanks!

I'd just do RAID 5 or 6 if you are using RAID card. How much performance do you need for storage and backup?

Storage/Backup don't need good performance since it is usually write once/read many.

RAID5 should be fine assuming the drives are the same size. Otherwise, go with a non-RAID solution like Storage Spaces or FlexRAID.

I don't really know how much performance I do need as I have never had a backup-system.
It will be used for lots of storage, mostly pictures and recordings/movies as it will take up most space compared to the other files.

EDIT: All drives will be of same size.

EDIT2: What kind of RAID controller should fit for this use? Cheaper the better!
