How does this look

Thread Starter
Okay, so here's my build so far: How does it look!

Case: Antec One
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Graphics card: ASUS Radeon HD 7770
Power Supply: Antec VP-450
Storage: Western Digital WD Blue 500GB
Processor: AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz

EDIT: If someone could tell me if these parts are compatible and everything too, that'd be much appreciated thumb.gif

Keep in mind I'm just using this as a budget gaming PC!

you are better off with a i3 processor. it performs better than the fx-4170.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115078 with $15 dollars off only $105 w/ free shipping.

i assume you wont be overclocking, so even a budget h61 mATX board will be good enough for you.

don't bother with the ASUS hd 7770. since you won't be overclocking, get the cheapest GHZ edition one such as this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127687

Heck with the money saved from your previous build you can grab hd 7850. remember gpu power > cpu power

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161426

grab this power supply... $20 after promo code/rebates... with free shipping

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026

everything else looks good.

I agree with with mcc21. At the moment the best bang for buck at the moment is Intel.

This is true but I recieved the processor case and RAM as a gift tongue.gif So I'm trying to work with that the best I can!

Everything looks alright and should be compatible. I suggest you get a FX-4300 instead of the older 4170. Even the A10 tends to outperform the 4170, so you'd definately be handicapping yourself with the older CPU.

You probably didn't see the post above but the case, processor and memory are unchangeable as they were gifts! I was just wondering how it looked/changes that could be made to the parts besides my gifts thumb.gif

Given the gifts involved, it looks like you have a good & reasonable setup. You might also consider a tower heatsink if you want to overclock. Also, shop around a bit for good price. us.ncix.com often has the best price on cases, and no shipping on orders over $50, for instance.

if that the case.... that cpu isn't going be overclocked that well either way. plus you would need a nicer board/psu.

something like this at $50 will do the job:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128564

so given that the case, i would opt for the cheapest mATX board you can get to just run your cpu at stock speeds, and money saved ($50) go for the best gpu you can buy.

Thanks for the help! Just curious, assuming I go with the original build posted, would it be able to run Half Life 2/mods, Gmod, DayZ and games like that?
