fx 8150 or Core i5? - Page 7

Then you're view of "Destruction" is much different from mine. Destruction would be more than twice as fast....not a couple seconds faster rolleyes.gif The majority of those results are far from that. My point is that the FX-8350 competes directly with the Core i5 and stands up to the Core i7 in several tasks...Which it does. What does this mean? That Piledriver wasn't a failure and that the FX-8350 is absolutely a good choice for anyone looking @ a $200 CPU.

A lot of people are discrediting AMD in general because they "Cannot compete" with Intel when in reality they do directly compete with them in the mainstream market. AMD held 20% of the desktop market last years and will more than likely do a little better this year. I am not trying to say the FX-8350 overall competes with the Core i7 because it doesn't. I am saying in several tasks it's on par with the Core i7. There's a $100 price difference between the two.

The 35k is £13 more expensive then the FX-8350 and yet consumes less power and blasts it at pretty much everything.

The FX series are a failure, AMD need to seriously drop the price down 20% to even make them worth looking at over an i5.

And why the FX competes with the i7 in a few tasks the i5 can match a i7 in 95% of tasks...

FX is not failure, it performes better than the P2's and is mostly on par with the 2500k's..... plz tell me how its a failure, everybody overclocks here so throw your facts about power consumption out the window because if your really worried about that just get a laptop... 8350 beats the 35k at alot of mutithreaded goodness biggrin.gif

Piledriver is great bang for your buck in multithreaded benchmarks. I play games though not multithreaded benchmarks. And thoes need powerful cores because 99% of them will not use 8 cores and if you plan on crossfire or sli in the future amd has nothing to offer.

I didn't know my thread would create such a fight xD.
So anyway I hope I'm not derailing the topic here, but I'll tell him to look for the price of a radeon hd 7950.
And about the price difference, the fx 8150 is almost on par with the i5 3570k, we're buying locally and prices are always a bit weird.
No, my friend doesn't care about brands at all. He's pretty much a beginner when it comes to PC's. So, if the 7950 is out of his budget, which should he pick : GTX 660 Ti or Radeon HD 7850?

Between an HD 7850 and a GTX 660 Ti, the GTX 660 Ti seems like the better card. I'm not sure how significant the 12.11 drivers performance increase was for the HD 7850, but as far as I know, the GTX 660 Ti pulls ahead of the HD 7850.

it's not even close. 660Ti will outright destroy a 7850. they're not on the same price segment. isn't a 7950 priced the same with a 660Ti>

Alright thanks. So, if I find a 7950 at same price as 660 Ti, 7950 is the way to go?
How about 660 ti vs 7870, also?

Quick question where are you located?

Do you mind shopping "used" as long as items have warranty's used harms nothing.. And Alot of the times saves money or really opens a Budget up for much better hardware.
