Thread Starter
few quick points
i bought a 128g samsung 840 pro
100% new to ssds but already love the speed
i did instal the ssd in ahci mode
couple of question about controllers and other things

1) do i need to reinstall everything from my hdd because i can access some files but others say i must reinstal them completely
-for the ones that still work do i need to create a file path shortcut for them because searching for them in the start menu doesn't work anymore
for example to get to word i have to find the file path and open it i cannot get it from the start menu
2)the controllers i read a couple of guides on them and will continue reading but how important are they because my mobo seems to be too old have the new nice ones i believe it has marvel but i have no clue how to control it other than switching to it in the bios
3)is there something i am missing that can give me direct control of my old harddrive while booting from my ssd
4)should i uninstall my os from the hdd

I would go ahead and install them into this current installation of Windows.  It's the only way for them to be easily searchable from the Start Menu (the reason they're not showing up in the Start Menu is because they are not installed into this installation of Windows).

If you install Word into this installation of Windows, then you will also get the added benefit of Word opening up automatically when you double-click a Word document.  For example, if you download a Word document right now, double-clicking it will not automatically open Word because it's not installed into this installation of Windows.  Things like this will only work if the program is actually installed in the current installation of Windows that you're working with.

The thread linked below shows that the Intel-controlled SATA 2 ports can provide slightly superior performance over the Marvell ports:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1284942/intel-ich10-vs-marvell-9128

Marvell is also known to be less stable than Intel and sometimes even causes BSODs for no apparent reason.

I don't know what you mean.  Can you elaborate?

There is no uninstall option.  Even if an uninstall option existed, there's nothing wrong with leaving it there.

I don't know of any software like that.

You can install anything you want to the hard drive (except drivers - they are best installed to C:), so I do recommend installing anything you want to the hard drive instead of the solid state drive.  In order to do this, look for the installer's "Custom" or "Advanced" installation option.  During the process of setting up the installation (before it actually begins), you will have the option to change the installation path.  Actually, I recommend always using the Custom or Advanced option (or whatever the developer decided to call it) in order to also avoid ending up with things you don't want, such as silly toolbars for your browser.

Also, these installers should all provide you the option to create desktop shortcuts.  Although, I would just pin your most frequently used programs to the Taskbar once they are installed.  The first 10 items on the Taskbar are accessible from the keyboard by pressing Windows Key + 1 through 9.  Windows Key + 0 opens the 10th item from the left.
