Did I have to install both Marvell and AMD pre install raid drivers in order to use the Marvell controller's raid function?

For the ones who don't feel like reading I made a short version. (bold)

I have the Sapphire Pure Black 990fx board and while I was installing windows on an ssd raid0 I wanted to install both the Marvell and sb950 raid pre-install drivers. My ssds were plugged of course into the sb950.

While installation it wouldn't let me install both pre-install drivers. Whenever I chose the amd ones the marvell would disappear and vice-verse, so I ended up installing without the marvell ones. I'm planning on buying a second 120gb ssd and raiding it with another 120gb ssd and using the marvell conroller for raid.

Now, when I plugged the odd drive into the lone marvell sata port up next to the i/o shield, the computer fails to boot. (It hangs while making the windows logo animation at boot) Did I do something wrong? Was I supposed to install the marvell pre-install drivers too if I wanted to use the controller for raid in future?

Thanks for answering, will give anybody rep who can help me with this. I have never had a board with two different sata controllers. redface.gif

OK, pre-installation you need to install the drivers for the RAID controller. Post installation you boot into windows, install the drivers for your other controller, shut down and attach the drive. Once you've done that change your Boot options to the correct controller. This is a blank SSD you're attaching isn't it.

Oh ok good. Just go a bit worried there. I will be raiding on the marvell controller in near future.

I wouldn't RAID on the Marvell controller. Keep all SSDs on the SB950. Move a HDD or DVD drive to the Marvell if you have to.

The SB950 is that an intel RAID controller or something?

Why? I know the Marvell controller is a small bottleneck but since I already have a raid0 on the SB950 don't you think that the AMD raid controller would be slower?

No it isn't slower. Plus the Marvell can be unstable.
