You guys know that until about 10 years ago, apple computers were "made in the USA" right?

You guys know that global foundries just finished a huge plant in NY State right? You guys know Intel is making CPU's in Arizona now right? And Foxcon is building a plant here right?

Even though labor costs are indeed higher here in the USA, there is a lot more stability and that is very attractive to companies wherever they are based. With Intel's plant in Isreal for example, what happens when war breaks out in the region? It affects supply lines and worker availability and all sorts of other issues.

There are some very real benefits to making things in the USA and I for one applaud them.

The CPU fabs don't really matter a lot...people that make CPUs get paid a lot no matter where you are since it mostly all machines that make them. Not a lot of human work involved. So you just build them in areas where you need the products to reduce shipping costs or in areas that give you a tax break. Intel actually has fabs in few different locations. I think they might have more in Oregon than in Arizona even. What we need in the US are the factories that make the capacitors, resistors, and the like...the easy to make stuff. Those are the high volume job intensive items.

The Foxconn factory has never been confirmed as far as I know...in fact I've read reports of them denying any such plans.

GM has manufacturing in Mexcio and abroad (for other non USDM models). What we do know is that they closed a good portion of their USA facilities in the past 5 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_General_Motors_factories#Closed_or_sold_factories

Ford has a mix of both I think, but they're typically said to be the only US manufacturer that makes USDM cars in the US. They didnt take the bailout money and close factories.

Nice work Tim. I always appreciate companies making more industry here in the 'States.

Isn't the Obama Administration gonna provide tax breaks to companies that move their production here? If so they could still make large profits

That is until they have to deal with Unions and Obamacare.

This will be a massive undertaking to be sure.

You know i've never really heard anything about Foxconn in South America...I know they have large facilities down there. Are there horrible working conditions there as well?

I've read that Foxconn makes like 40% of the worlds electronics...people really need to realize that Foxconn does not make only Apple products. Apple is certainly a big customer, but I doubt they are more than 50% of their work load.
