Hi guys! Long post and a couple questions incoming
I am using a Catleap SE (single dvi, 6ms of lag I think) at the moment. I was considering buying an overlord PCB so that I can overclock my monitor to maybe 120hz, but I didn't for two reasons.
1.) My system doesn't have the power to reach 120 fps in most modern games on high settings, so I don't think it is even worth buying.
2.) I am getting a PS3 soon and a PS4 when it comes out, so I need a multi input monitor with a scalar to display 1080p and look good. 720p on a ps3 with my single input Catleap looks gross.
I don't have any room for a console anywhere else than besides on my desk (my tv is small and high up so it would be uncomfortable to game from it, and I can't have this console anywhere else than my room). So I'll be using it with my monitor. I obviously can't with my Catleap, so I need a multi input monitor and don't want anything else than IPS or PLS. Here's my dilemna. I tried a multi input IPS with the same panel, the Auria EQ276W, and it looks just the same as my Catleap and looks great on a PS3, but introduces a noticeable amount of lag on the PC gaming side. So I thought up until now my options are to keep both monitors (which I really don't have room for, and would be a waste imho) or sell my Catleap and learn to live with the lag while PC gaming on the Auria, which may not be possible for me.
Then I saw the Viewsonic. Since it's mutli input, I assume it has a scalar. Scalars introduce lag, but the Viewsonic is still very fast? How is that possible? I'm a bit confused, as everyone here says it's a really fast monitor, but many other sites have said otherwise?
I normally wouldn't trust these reviews, but sadly even TFTCentral said it's not great for gaming.
I know you can cut down the lag by the advanced setting, but PRAD said there is significant overshoot.
I could be misunderstanding this all, so let me ask. Will the difference in lag be noticeable between my Catleap and this Viewsonic? I can tell the difference between my Catleap and my Auria (at about 25ms I believe) and it's uncomfortable. Which leads me to my questions.
1.) How does the image quality compare to the LG panel found in my Catleap (the same one as the Apple Cinema Displays)?
2.) It's semi-glossy. I hate matte because the AG coatings ruin the picture quality for me and give it that grainy look. Is this the case with the VP2770?
3.) The Auria has no lag with the PS3, so can you expect the same with this monitor? (any PS3 owners please feel free to chime in!)
If this monitor is as good or better looking as the Catleap/Auria, as fast as the Catleap, and can display 1080p with really good quality on a PS3, then this is what I'm getting no doubt. Sorry for the long post, I really need some clarifications. I really appreciate it guys Edited by apav - 4/12/13 at 11:37pm
