[Build Log] OREO BLITZ!!! (Merlin SM8 Water Cooled/ First Build EVER) - Page 7

I started by pouring water in by hand, I've since moved on and created an adapter for my sink that will flush continuous tap water through parts. You can also purchase a really cheap pond pump at hardware stores for 10-20 bucks, fill one side of the sink with water and submerse it. My whole process for rads is an initial rinse with vinegar, then run tap water for 30minutes, and a final rinse with distilled. Never had any problems or gunk in my loop.

Waterblocks you certainly want to flush as well you never know what they left inside them during the machining and assembly process. I used to take every block apart and inspect them, now I just flush with tap water and do a final distilled rinse.

because i have the dual bay res should i attach my pumps on them and run them for the flush? otherwise wont the water all just spray out from the holes pump will fill?>
any tricks to rinising the water blocks?> how do i do the gpus and cpu? just run water through the pieces and flush with some distilled? obviously do this before cpu block attached but for gpus they are all attached so is that safe to flush?

This looks great! love the res mount idea.

ok retrd moment here but the cpu doesnt come with a stock cooler? just opened my 3930k and its just the chip? .... so now i really only have waterblocks fro cooling on both cpu and gpu.... how do i proceed?

secondly i just had a real **** time installing mobo on mobo tray in caselabs due to some foam pad on the back of the port slots(dont know name) for the mobo connectors on back... had little scratches dude to rubbing bottom of mobo on standoffs but very small and only right around where the standoffs sit anyway... is this an issue??? did i break something already haha?????

i guess ill just install the cpu and ram and not be able to test it cause no cooling at alll... not really sure how to proceed here.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why not just make simple loop on your desk or table somewhere and test the components with water instead of air?

Just buy some cheap tubing and barbs and test it. Shouldn't be that difficult.

well the thing was i was looking for more of a quick fix so i could try and get a bunch done this weekend.... are the odds really that against me if i just build the whole system and try to power it on then?
Dude... just make a simple loop on your table, plumb it, and then test your components. You're going to thank me later. thumb.gif

ok so ill just use my dual bay res outside the case along with the pumps and then run it to test that it all turns on? will i need a rad or can i just run the distilled water through it with no other cooling?

dont mean to sound like a retard just sucks cause i dont really have the space or setup to run tests easily or have spare parts etc... so when i run into things like this i get little nervous and unsure cause these components are all quite expensive... so i guess ill install the waterblovk on cpu and then run a small loop outside with the 240 rad i guess and try to see if i csan get that all powered on... are there any tests i need to run to see if the components are working properly and up to speed? or am i more looking to just mke sure everything works/ powers on briefly and then shut it down and hook the whole system up? srry i sound like total noobert but i am... tongue.gif

At this point, I would just make sure everything works. If you want to run some tests like memtest or other things, I think it would be fine.
