Just wondering if this thing would be any good for playing games like BF3, Dirt2/3 and so on while used w/my PC?

I have mixed feelings about those types of headsets. I mean if you are looking for something that will be used for team chat and has pretty good positioning and not much more then I guess it is ok.

Let me put it this way. It is kind of a niche product. If you fit into that particular niche perfect, then go for it. If not, then I wouldn't even touch them with a 50 foot pole.

Here are some things you need to understand. First off, wireless headphones have a lot of issues. There is some input lag, the sound quality is ok to poor, the system can sometimes pick up interference, there will be some inherent noise due to the headphones,if the battery pack cannot be replaced with normal batteries (AA/AAA/9v/D/C/button cell) then you will be forced to recharge them which turns them back into wired headphones, and if that is the case, your battery pack can also wear out after several recharges.

Now the upside to something like this is that if you sit 10+ feet away from your tv screen/pc and you are playing with a wireless keyboard and mouse because the cables can't reach very well, then something like this is probably going to be a fairly good product, but that is about it.

Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-A700X-Audiophile-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B006ZG1VR4/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354830524&sr=1-12&keywords=ath-ad700 plus a clip on microphone would be a LOT better.

I recommend them.

No they are no where near as good as audio specific sets, but they get the job done. They have a great battery life. They work PS3/Xbox/PC and they are comfortable.

I would buy these again if I had to.

The console driven headsets require a mixamp that you carry with you. I would rather pay half the price and not be tied to a box in my lap.

I use these while on the treadmill and playing console. They are my primary headset for Gaming on PC too.

Sound is really YMMV, but until I can really see(hear) the need to spend $300+ on audio over video I will keep buying the stuff that fits my needs.

Like more SSDs Vid cards, CPUs, Monitors.

Hope this helps,
-NitroNarcosis

Added:

Battery is easily replaceable whenever it does die (cuz it will)
It can be used while charging. The headsets give you ample warnings via a beep when the headset is close to death. Half the time I ignore it blindly, until it starts to happen more frequently and then I end up going "OH my headsets are dying." Then plug them in and continue. For the 8 months I have had them. This has only happened to me twice. Hence the reason I forget what the beep means or that it is coming from the headsets.

Also you can barely hear a darn thing anyone next to you is saying with them on. -_-

I will say that if you are looking for Wireless headsets on a budget and you need them to possibly work with your systems too. Grab these. They are the best ones in the price range.

The two inputs are controlled by separate rollers on the side of the head set. So I can game on Xbox and PC at the same time and just adjust the volumes accordingly.

You know when you are playing GMOD or some other round based game and you die...instead of sitting there for what could be 5-10 minutes. Just respawn on BF3 on your console and ignore the fact that you got owned in your other game.

Ok...let me help. Go download foobar 2000. Then try to find a song/soundtrack/some type of music that you already like and go find the .flac version of the song. Download it, and play it side by side your regular music that you would listen to in itunes or in windows media player. I think you will notice a fairly large difference.

Then what you should do is get a mobile music player (ipod/smartphone/basic MP3 player) and load some flac songs to it (or if it is an apple device, you can download some lost less apple audio files). Then go to any best buy where they sell $250+ headphones with and start listening to them with your Mp3 player. I guarantee you you will see what the point of spending money on good headphones.

Thanks guys.

I appreciate everyones input on this. I was looking to go wireless for less than $50.00 shipped and needed some input. I decided against it as it would have been just one of the many impulse buys w/o input. Thanks to both replies I decided against the $50.00 impulse buy as I really don't need it. I just wanted to know if it was a deal to good to pass up on and I determined it was not too good to pass up on. Besides the deal was for Factory Referbished any way so who knows they could have been really good or really bad just the luck of the draw on that one. Any way thanks again guys.

Cheers w/Root Beers cheers.gif

So, if I had seen the light...and I still require the following:

Wireless
Support for multiple systems on the fly (at the press of a button)
No stupid box to carry around with me
Microphone that works on Xbox/PC/PS3
Decent battery life
Volume control on board

Which pair of cans would you suggest? I went looking before...but couldn't find anything that fit my needs.

I chose to sacrifice superior audio for these reasons:
Right now my option is onboard sound of my RIIIF
I do not listen to music while I game
I do not watch movies on my PC. If I do watch movies via netflix/streaming on my TV. It surely will not be with headsets on.
All I need to hear are footsteps/gunshots/ambient game noises.
Hearing them "better" isn't going to give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I will agree that superior audio is an enlightening experience.

Even using these cheap otherwise normal looking head sets you can clearly hear additional accompaniment within just about every song, as opposed to listening to it via your speaker or generic ear buds.

So, for now I will be pleased and satisfied with what I have. Since it fits my needs. I will not be going to Best Buy. I cannot even set foot in one of those places. The workforce in those places is filled with useless uneducated dimwits who want to sell you something they barely have a handle on. I certainly would not be grabbing at some dirty germ infested test pair of headsets during flu season just to fulfill an inquiry that I already understand. I know what great sound is, I have my favorite band discovery completely on FLAC. If I did happen to put that on my iPhone...I would have no room for anything else. It is a compromise I am willing to take.

As for the OP. I am glad we could assist you...seeing just between myself and TJ you already have the two extremes which provide you with ample background into whether or not this item would fit your requirements. I hope that the next time the itch bites, you will be able to get just as good of feedback on the item as you did here from others of the community.

Thanks,

I am going to prelude this an say that I am trying to be very diplomatic with this statement. I hold no animosity for your opinions, and for some reason, when I read the comment myself, I can see where someone might take my statement below as offensive. So please know that I am trying to write with a neutral tone.

I am not necessarily saying that you as your own person has any good reason to upgrade. I was just commenting on the fact that the claim that you don't see any reason to spend 300+ was kind of a broad statement. There are indeed plenty of reasons to spend more than 300 bucks on headphones alone, but I am smart enough to know that you have very particular needs and that you did a very good job of getting headphones that worked for you. At the same time however, I just want to make sure that you understand that are reasons for it while at the same time making a bold enough statement to provide a good opposition to your original comment. That is why I quoted what I did.

Hopefully that came across correctly.

As for best buy, I completely agree. I know this story is a bit off topic, but I think it is a wonderful portrayal of best buy. I tried to get hired there one time, and the employer asked me "what makes you think you would do a good job of working here" . I replied that I sometimes come in to look at things for a potential upgrade to what I have. Sometimes as I am looking, people will ask me if I know anything about computers, audio gear, tv's, and pretty much everything other than house hold appliances. After telling them that I could indeed help them, that i would sell them stuff. I told him that I wasn't searching for these people or being a creeper. In fact, most of the times in which that happens is when best buy has one employee working there and there are 50 people waiting to get some answers.

Now I was thinking.. Hey, I wasn't harassing anyone, THE CUSTOMERS ASKED ME for help, and I have sold some expensive things on best buys behalf. I have no idea how that can be taken negatively. But guess who did.....best buy. The manager said that they could actually sue me for helping other customers because for every product those customers bought, best buy lost out on a lot of add on sales which actually costs them money............... well this was pretty much exactly what happened after he said that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dznBoMQymM . Keep in mind that the guy's arguments were about as good as the pink guy (buu) . I went around with him to every department and started to ask all the employees basic questions about their departments. For the TV department, I asked what the refresh rate of a monitor meant in terms of the end user experience. The sales clerk answered that it gave better color reproduction...... I went to the audio center and asked them what the best pair of headphones they had were, and he found the most expensive pair of beats headphones to show me.... I went to the little mac corner and asked them why a mac was better than a PC. They said it doesn't need repair. There were 5 of them sitting at the geek squad counter in plain sight of the guy doh.gif .

By the time I actually went around to each department, I actually gained a crowd of people that swore they would only shop online with newegg.

The sad thing is that I got a bunch of giftcards from my friends for best buy about a month after that as a joke arrowheadsmiley.png

So after 5 months and a bunch of "reworking the company", I went in the other day to try and relieve my self of these accursed cards. So I found some headphones that were 50 bucks by audio technica, and I thought I would try them out. So I go up to the cash register to buy them and they said "that will be 300 dollars". I was like oh boy......here we go again. So the same manager comes out and his face had this kind of oh-***** look. By this point I am standing by the price tag. I am like hey these headphones are grossly miss marked. So he takes out the tag, looks at it and said, oh it was printed incorrectly and said that the price should be 250. I said okayyyyyy but that doesn't explain why it said 300 at the register. He took a second look at it and said, oh it was a sale price that ended 3 weeks ago.

So I said, let me get this straight.... You guys misprinted a label, saw the label was messed up and put it up anyways instead of reprinting it, and then failed to take it down the the sale was over. He said yes, but I can't honor that price. I said, well that is about standard for this dump of a company. He said ...and I quote.... "well how can you hold best buy accountable, when the printer is what made the label come out wrong"............... I know our society has taken a turn for the worse, and people are uncaring and unresponsive to reason, but that is not excuse to be that stupid. mad.gif

When I recommend that people go to best buy, it is out of sheer optimism that their best buy will be better than mine.

As for a headphone recommendation. Well obviously you aren't interested, but if you were, the astro A50s would be the way to go. granted you don't have volume control on board, but you have some other cool features like a mix amp, and some profiles that let you game, listen to music, and match movies if you so desired.

Again, I know you found a product that suits you well, and good for you, but I am just responding to your comment for the hack of it.
