Breaking a RAID 1 array

Hi guys, I have quick question.

I have two WD20EARS running in RAID 1 and would like to break the array. Would doing so erase my data on both drives or just one or none? Thanks.

You would just have two drives with the same data (until obviously you booted from one or wrote data to it). All the RAID is doing is cloning the data wrote to the disks. So in breaking it you just no longer have cloned disks.

Just to be safe, take one drive out. Then on startup (assuming a hardware RAID here) go to your Ctrl+I (or whatever key combination gets you into the RAID manager) and disable the array. Test to see if drive still has data (or boots if its the OS drive).

No risk of losing data because all the same data is on the drive you just disconnected.
