Are Nvidia cards "smoother" then ATI?

I've read in a few reviews that even though the 680 is slightly slower then the 7970 the picture on the screen seems "smoother" and there is less stutter to the image.

Is there any truth to this?

Some games favor AMD, some favor Nvidia, really no definitive answer to which is best or even better.

I always felt that there is. Nvidia drivers are much more stable than Catalyst and cause fewer issues mid-game, work, anything in general. I prefer Nvidia, but I used to have AMD. If AMD had better drivers, they would be superior for their affordability. Cheap and really powerful.

Nvidia is a great way to go, if you have the money. If you need to save a bit, settle for an AMD card. You still won't be disappointed.

You can't deny that currently the 7970 is the faster card especially at hi res and when overclocked, but i still hear this smoothness think in reviews about nvidia cards hm..
AMD has been considerably better with their drivers as of late. The whole 7000 series has seen much better driver support than cards of the past. I don't think that this is a valid argument any more.

I have seen reviews comparing AMD and Nvidia cards, most recently the 7950 and 660ti that does show the 660ti has a more constant frame rate while the 7950 fluctuates quite a bit more. Whether you would notice this much at all depends on the user, but I suppose in that case one could say the Nvidia card is "smoother."

I've had both AMD and NVIDIA cards, and I gotta say that they are pretty much the same "smoothness-wise", and I consider myself to be pretty sensitive to this. Just buy the best price-performance ratio card out there mate wink.gif.

AMD drivers are great, NVIDIA drivers are great as well. There.
If there was any inherent 'smoothness' to either card, that isn't seen in the other brand it would be mentioned in reviews. I've never heard of that and from experience I haven't had many different cards, but my first was a Radeon HD4870, moved on to a HD4890, Now I have an Nvidia GTX 550Ti. The Radeons did have a little occasional video driver crash, perhaps once every other gaming session. Now, this was back in 2007 or 2008 whenever the 4870 first came out. My Nvidia card is 'low' end, but it seems like it handles games better than my radeon, with less hardware.

I know these are the more pedestrian sites, but try tomshardware.com and anandtech.com for some decent reviews. you will never find mention of any smoothness inherent in either company's cards. and sometimes they show screenshots side by side of the exact same spot in a game on both the NVidia and the radeon card, they always look identical really. I cant speak of the newer 6000 and 7000 radeon cards, but from what I understand the price vs performance is just superb right now.

hope this helps

I understand that 12.11 have been amazing lately, but please understand that I haven't used AMD cards in months. I don't know what it's like.
