Are Nvidia cards "smoother" then ATI? - Page 11

What overwhelming responses in favor of the GTX's and smoothness.
Amazing, and many people posting have owned GPU's from both sides, like myself.

You get what you pay for! Nvidia is a bit more expensive but I will happily pay that premium.

So now that HD 7970 GHz is the fasted GPU the discussion is no more about which card get more fps but which one is smother. Reading all these post i feel like Nvidia users have to justly their purchase and bring AMD to the ground.

Here is a example.

Nvidia owner:

1) I never get amd. their driver are crap, Nvidia ftw

AMD owner:

1) In my experience they are about the same.

I have both HD 7970, HD 7970 CF and GTX680. CFX apart for FC3 destroys any game. Its so fast CPU cant keep up. BF3 is supper smooth. Other games dont even need that much GPU power. GTX680 does not feel any smother in my eyes, my bothers and my friends.

This thread is what I have been trying to explain to people for years. Benchmarks don't prove anything in the real world.

Key words: "in my experience"
Well my experience was FAR different. It's a crapshoot on either side, but less so with Nvidia.

If you are a fanboy, I guarantee one brand or the other will be much smoother! tongue.gif

But really, its hard to tell the difference. I Recently switched out my two 6970's to try a single 680. The only thing I notice is the framerate lows for the 680 are still a little lower and the highs for the 6970 pair are a good bit higher... and the GTX680 is really quiet and and doesn't double as a personal space heater. Been switching out brands for as long as I can remember and never really noticed a difference... other than the time I switched from a x1900gt to a 8800gts (was like night and day lol).

Most of the time AMD is fine. My case was an exception, their drivers didn't seem to like something about my setup. Like I said, a crapshoot on either side. Some people will walk away with a sour taste in their mouth, some people will walk away pleased. But I think it can be statistically said that AMD tends to have more driver issues and stutter. That's just a fact. If you took an anonymous poll about people's experiences, I'm sure people would agree. You are more likely to get burned with AMD. By no means does that mean that you WILL get burned by AMD. You could also get burned with Nvidia.

I know your situation and its less then 1% of those that use CFX 7970 with Eyefinity. The problem is people take ur word for every scenario. When Fermi came out i had a HD 5850 @ 1000/1250 which cos considered a very good OC. A lot of Fermi owner keeped talking about how their GTX470 was so much smother and tessalation was better (At that time games did not have any, as a matter of fact until Crysis 2 came out it never made a difference and that was Crysis 2 known to have tessellation madness). I made the switch to GTX470 more for fun then anything else. Forget all the Fermi problem with heat/power consumption, i was getting less fps and having driver problems. I never spend until that day more then $300 in a GPU. I was so desperate like you (GTX690) that i ordered a GTX580 for another try. GTX580 was a different monster all together. The thing is that it was not perfect and had problem with 2D clock and such, HD 6900 came out and after seeing HD 6950 that can unlock i grabbed that. and sold GTX580. I lost 10-15% performance yet i did not notice a difference but had $200 in my wallet. HD79XX was a hard launch for AMD because it was a all new architecture since HD 2900. I know for sure that HD 79XX will mature nicely.
