Also yea I agree the DOW games are on too small of a scale, particularly DOW 2. I felt they tried to make it to much like COH; it was basically COH with 40k units. I was hoping for something like DOW1 or better yet supreme commander.
well, I too was on live head start and betas for a year before hand, and continued playing for 2 years total.
Personally, I had no problems with the game even when I was running my old Opteron 165 dual core with 2GB Ram and 8800GTS 640MB
But I had massive slowdowns once we hit the 100 player son screen mark even with Spell visuals off.
When I built the i7 Rig I had only a cheapo 3gb kit and same 8800GTS 640 MB GPU, the little bit of extra ram and severe CPU upgrade was a Night and day difference with the game, but I would get back to the limitation of the GPU at around 150-200 players on screen.
When I finally got the Mushkin Kit installed and the GTX 275 I was running Large Scale Server raids All day long on saturdays, litterally. And Max I could get to befor slowing down was 400 Players on screen battling a Keep.
Granted, My GPU's of choice were better suited for these sort of games,
640MB 320-bit GDDR3
896MB 448-bit DDR3
they let me funnel much more textures quickly at those numbers of players.
My wife and I miss Warhammer online very much.
Sorry for the rant!
I definitely agree, a real old school RTS is what Warhammer 40k Needed
