Opinions/Recommendations for my Windows 8

Thread Starter
So after using Windows 8 since release, I cant help but feel like there is alot of overlap between the two UI's. I didn't like randomly switching over to metro apps, eg photoviewer, when clearly I should be sticking in the desktop. I came to the conclusion that 99% of Metro apps are pretty much useless to me. Where I see Metro apps benefiting a desktop user is in the form of small tools that one would normally use a web-browser to assist in preforming the task ( EG: Metro countdown timer opposed to a web based one).

So I stared taking apart the Metro UI and have set it up to launch mainly desktop apps (made some icons and such). I am liking it a lot more now. But it sure does feel bland.

Thus, I am out for some recommendations, apps, anything I can do that is actually useful to populate my start screen, or tweak my ui.
Here are some screenshots of what I have done so far. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

The way I have it set up is all those icons on the left of metro UI launch desktop apps.

You should download the Windows task bar just like in Win 7... Like I have.
Its called "Start8" Its great IMO. I love it and its just like the Win 7. I can't stand the metro UI.
