Phenom II 940 BE - looking to OC on air - read guides, no luck - Page 2

Don't mess with the FSB for the time being - that will just confuse things.

Get the following setup stable first, my current settings plays everything fine and is fast enough for everything I need to do:

CPU multi x16.5 = 3.3GHz, 1.35V
RAM = 1066MHz, 5,5,5,15,22, 2.1V
NB = 2.4GHz, 1.35V
HT = 2.0GHz

On my setup, this maxes out at about 58C under prime, so the olde 940 runs hot.

Once you know this is stable, then you can go about fine-tuning the multi and FSB one at a time. I didn't bother in the end, as I prefer having Sleep working properly, and as I said, the current OC is a perfect match for the 6950.

Dump everything back to default, then underclock your memory a little. At that point start working the CPU multiplier. Don't try and OC the CPU and Mem at the same time. Because of the hardware you have you might need to drop your Mem down to 800Mhz from the 1066 to get a stable OC on the CPU.

Thread Starter
Thanks everyone - I JUST passed my first 24 hour Prime95 (Small FFT) test - working my CPU Voltage up from 1.4 and mid way through I loosened my RAM timings to what they should have been stock (for some reason they were 'tightened' in the BIOS by default).

Current settings:
CPU = 17.5 = 3.5 GHz
CPU voltage = 1.5V
Set RAM timings to 5-5-5-18 (default was 5-5-5-15)

That is all I changed for now as I wanted to get the CPU stable first. I'll move on to the RAM, NB, and HT later this week.

Thanks all for the input so far!
