I was gonna ask if you tried switching the top/bottom card and did they work individually. It could have been a physical issue with one of the cards. I read through the last couple of pages. Shame you didn't 100% find the issue...

Yeah, it's been quite the journey. I'm hopeful that my 690 will keep me happy! I found one for $700. Hopefully the 2GB effective VRAM doesn't hurt me down the road...
Anyway I'm still 99% sure it was a driver problem and I know Nvidia is typically better, at least in my experience

Probably, but not a generic problem. I know 2 people with CF 7970s and they work flawlessly. But that's the nature of drivers.

I found too many reviews where ATI won over Nvidia in fps. I finally bought one of their cards and im am very disappointed.

MY GTX 690 HAS A DEAD DVI PORT. CAN'T USE SURROUND.
I'M GOING TO KILL SOMEBODY.
