confused! which route to go?

Thread Starter
first, I apologize if this thread is going to be another "A vs B" thread. I've lots of threads which have something similar situation like me. But I haven't found the answer yet, since my situation is a bit different.

I'm planning to build a new machine, my current rig is on the sig. smile.gif I'll going to use some of the old parts, like PSU, graphics card, and memory. First, I already planned to get a 3570K for my next build. Already decided on a board, a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H. I already read some people who already have a AMD system, mostly Phenom II, wanted to upgrade, either to Bulldozer or Piledriver. Some advice told them to go Intel for better performance, even they already have a AM3+ board.

But my situation was a bit different. Now I have a unused Phenom II X4 980 BE, without a board. While the majority here already have a AM3+ board in their system and wanted a new processor, I'm on the opposite side (bit weird huh?).

So I need your opinions guys, should I abandon my plan and use this 980 instead? Or keep sticking to my original plan?

I will use this rig mainly for games and movies. For now, I only play "not-so-demanding" games like CS:GO and Dota 2. But I also want to play more demanding games that will release later. I also will do some occasional video ripping and encoding for my other devices, and maybe a bit video editing just for fun.

thank you biggrin.gif

Stick with the Intel route for the more intense games down the line.

Save yourself the money from buying a new system and get a better video card instead. A mobo such as the ASRock Extreme 3 will serve you well and will offer an upgrade path to Vishera 2.0 and maybe Steamroller in the future should you decide to stick with amd.

I would go intel for the future. AMD is missing the ball & have been for some yrs. You get your money's worth with Intel....(price/watt performance) AMD's top of the line CPU can barely whoop the 3570K & they're around the same price. Community for Intel is much larger than AMD's, so feedback is great. Here's a bench below....
