Goodbye fellow members, my last post at OCN - Page 4

I can only assume (and hope) that this is an instance of an overzealous moderator attempting to enforce a rule contrary to the spirit and the purpose for which the rule was made. I just did a quick run through of the ToS and I feel it is plainly obvious that the two following rules need to be enforced on a case by case basis:

"You have confirmed that you have not made this content publicly available before and do not wish to publicly repurpose/reuse this content at a later time"
"Display affiliate links of any kind"

In this case Martin runs a website to which he publishes watercooling reviews, and is kind enough to make a posting in our forums detailing his most recent review, some photos, and the results of the review so people don't have to go to his site to read the same review. He is not here trying to drive people to his website, conversely, he is posting his reviews here, in full, to the detriment of his own website's traffic. Yes, his images are watermarked. This is common sense and in my opinion should not be construed as willful action intended to draw people to an affiliate website. Martin should get credit for all of his work including photographs.

Hopefully this will be resolved (and Martin will be afforded an apology) for the sake of the OCN community. He is *obviously* a highly valued member of the forums and deserves to be treated better.

PS: Get your bureaucratic non-sense out of my overclocking forum. Thanks.

Indeed, agreed with most of you guys here. Only reason why I am here is because of the community, if people cant start posting reviews, build log etc then they will probably leave this forum & so will I. I go where to experts goes tongue.gif

There are few great forums out there also, another reason why I stick here around more is because of the UI & active discussion. I hope someone will give a serious thought on the rules because I dont wish OCN goes downhill frown.gif

The OCN forum rules are:
1-No publishing work here AND other sites.
2-No publishing work here that has any sort of sponsorship.
3-No images with watermarks of other websites.
4-No links to outside websites
Unfortunately, I'm not rich and can't afford to both donate my free time and go out and buy 17 radiators for a big radiator review so I rely on many different sponsors to supply the samples. I also take too much pride in my work to restrict sharing it in one place and want to help more than just one place. I also can not help other members without linking to data from other sites which may be my own blog and that too is another violation.
I am very sorry, but those are the new rules here and that is an end to my existence at OCN.sadsmiley.gif
Take care, I wish you all the best.
Martin

So it's not just me then. i was just about to make new post on OCN about the rules though not the rules you stated. which seem rather odd and unnecessary.

I'm starting to think it's over zealous mods too. some times i get infracted or warned for the smallest of things.

This is very sad indeed. Martin, Sin and others have been posting reviews here and on others forums for quite a while. They are not professionals yet they provide the highest quality reviews that typically put professional review sites to shame.

Martin has given hundreds if not thousands of hours of testing and reviewing everything related to water cooling, donates all this free time and has nothing to gain from any of it. Martin has given so much to the water cooling community , how sad!

Than you for everything Martin!

Wow.. just wow.

I originally came to OCN because it had the most, and the best info I could find in one place. It was a COMMUNITY where one could (and would) find any information you needed for both overclocking, and general computer information and help.... it truly is sad that the the "let's control everybody and their work" attitude has taken root here (did the Chinese gov't recently acquire OCN?). I understand that OCN would want to prevent people from profiting at OCN's expense.. but it's out of hand when things like this are happening.

what a way to kill off your own forums. If you need money to keep running these forums i suggest you bring in advertising and suggest not killing off your users and companies that support your site.

Sorry to say your site is your users with out them you have nothing.

Very sad to hear this Martin. I loved your website, the video's and all the work that you did for the watercooling community.
I've seen things like this happening with Natemandoo as well. I can't help but noticing a negative trend in the OCN management. I still love this site, but if people like Martin are scared off for one of the worst things in the world: money, then I can't do anything but bow my head in sadness.

EDIT: Perhaps make a formal thread about Adblock and how ads work? I'm sure there are many people who forget that site's don't get revenue if the ads are blocked. I use adblocker (or adblock plus, can't recall) but my favourite sites are whitelisted (including OCN of course). Or they just forget that they have it enabled.
