I thought Left 4 Dead was supported? I'll make the switch when CS:S and CS:GO get ported.

When Source gets ported, all Source games will. At least, that's common sense to me.

I don't believe that is how it works. Just because the graphics engine works under Linux doesn't mean the rest of the game will. However, now that I think about it all the Source engine games are very similar in their graphics and physics. So they might all be exactly the same under the hood. Any one here done any modding with Source stuff and can comment on that?

Love it when the hardcore Linux nerds use examples of their ineptitude with Windows as an example of why the OS "sucks."

Also, love it when hardcore Windows nerds throw softballs like "Windows just works" as a reason not to try Ubuntu or Mint (which, btw, just work.)

There's room for multiple OSes out there. Everything has its use, otherwise, it wouldn't exist. For some people, gaming is the only thing keeping them invested in Windows. For them, Valve's commitment to Linux has been extremely validating, and they deserve to feel good about it. Windows aficionados need to relax, there will still be a Modern Warfare sequel-sequel-sequel-port-sequel. If anything impressive comes out Linux-only, you can bet the developer will eventually sell out to reach the Windows user base.

We should all relax, and be happy that gaming is driving innovation into new territories. That's good news!

I'd use Linux if it had proper gaming support.

Unfortunately, it doesn't. Just because Steam works on Linux now doesn't mean any of the games do. Source being ported over doesn't mean crap tbh.

The hundreds of games I own on Steam still won't work on Linux. I am still in need of Windows.

Funny, all several hundred of my DX9 games work on Linux with little to no problem. Most just as well as, some even better than natively in Windows. WINE has come a long way in the last few years. DX10 support is still being worked on and has partially already been added, once they finish then BF3 will be a possibility as it doesn't support DX9 ( it's DX10 minimum ). Just take a look here to see if your games will work.

And with some of the rumors about Steam on Linux incorporating something like WINE it very well could without the hassle of setting up WINE.

another great thing about linux. it caches in ram so well most people don't notice that much difference between ssds and hdds after the first couple minutes, where as in windows I find myself banging my head against a table if the drives more then 4 years old

My "gaming" Rosewill keyboard has no Linux drivers biggrin.gif

This is why gaming is so important for Linux.
