Hey friends,

I need your urgent help.

Yesterday, in anticipation of the arrival of a true surround sound headset I ordered, I updated my Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card (I know, rather cheap sound card) in hopes of getting better performance from the latest driver update. After I updated, I selected the option to allow me to reboot on my own, since I did not need it immediately, and I proceeded to close my computer a few hours later. Today, I booted my system up to find my volume adjustment with a red cross on it.

So I went to my device manager and found that there was yellow exclamation mark on with the description "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". I thought it might have just been something wrong during installation, so I uninstalled the drivers and tried to install it again. Same problem. Tried uninstalling again, uninstalling the already disabled Realtek drivers that could've caused problems, and also uninstalled the High Defintion Audio drivers, and THEN tried installing the old drivers I had pre-update. Same problem, just would not work.

At this point, I decided to hit the internet databases. I tried using PAX drivers after uninstalling the Creative ones again, but to no avail. Was starting to get pissed off. So I decided to use the drivers that came on the disc, very, very old. Worked, but installed Vista drivers, the creative programs refused to work with it. When I say it worked, I mean that the Xtreme output/input options came up in the Recording Devices and Playback devices, and the volume adjustment was no longer crossed out. But I could not adjust the settings on the sound card itself using the programs, which would say "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit."

After this, I tried uninstalling the vista drivers and tried to attempt some other fixes, but I noticed everytime I rebooted even after Driver Sweeper deleted everything, that my computer would automatically detect the sound card and install some default drivers for it. I disabled automatic driver updating, but it still did this after bootup. It would automatically reinstall High Defintion Audio Device also.

At this point I am out of ideas, and I don't know why it's not working. I mean, it does work with Windows 7, it was working just fine last night, and it has been for 9 months now.

I hope you guys can help me. My computer specs is in my signature.

Thanks.
