Unlocked Phenom 560 vs Phenom 1045t

Thread Starter
Hi there!

I'm new here and would like to get peoples opinions on which would be better to use.
I have bother 1045t which is currently overclocked to 3.7 and the 560BE which can be unlocked to a B60 quad and stable.

I do a lot of gaming and am currently using the 1045t which is pretty darn good, but I was wondering if I should use the unlocked 560BE and try and OC the hell out of it.

What do people think?

Well at 3.7Ghz you 1045T is probably just as good as a 3.3Ghz quad core in gaming.

I want to overclock the 560 though. Before I bother switching them over I wanted to know if it would be better to have a quad core with a higher clock or a 6 core with a slightly lower clock.

Depends on the overclock. Take here lower down a Deneb clocked at 3.4Ghz merely passed a 2.8Ghz Thuban.

3.7Ghz is high for Thuban and most new games fully use multithreaded processors. It's probably worth squeezing an extra 300Mhz out of your Thuban than it would be to unlock and try and overclock the 560BE which may not get you very far in terms of performance.

Try them both and run some benchmarks on each, then make your decision.

Just don't try a hero OC on your RAM, because your board only has 1 power phase for the memory.

Why not OC the 1045T further? (your hold back is probably the generic RAM and the limited bus clock, for more flexibility you would want to have a DDR3-1600 kit or better) Both would probably reach 4Ghz (of course, assuming good RAM) and provide similar performance except with the 1045T you get the cores advantage.

With the Thuban, you would also likely get a better HT speed - the memory controller is decidedly better than Denab's.
