New build - need help recommend parts

Thread Starter
hi i am new to this - looking to build a intel system -

i am looking at the 3770K - i think thats the chip - can anyone give me a decent MB - and memory which is not too expensive -

not gaming but like speed with multi tasking - ripping HD video - etc, encoding -

the chip i7 3770K -- need MD and RAM - looking for 16 gig total - two 8 gig - i just want everything to work - stable etc, -

maybe i try OC later - but its not a much now - since i dont know much - and need a working fast setup -

i am RMA my parts now - its a A10 - FM2 Gigabyte and tracer memory - something is off and not stable - not working - not sure if its the board - and memory - but dont want to play around with it now -

i decided to send it all back and start fresh with the i7 -

any ideas - suggestions - - fast stable and compatiable for my first time - - my last build was 6 years ago when i was more into OC etc,

now i just want it fast and stable -

looking to purchase ASAP -

thanks -

Is it for gaming?
If it is the 3570K is a better option then the 3770K
How much do you have spend on a motherboard?

Hi - no its not for gaming - mostly normal use - but i like to have many windows going at once -

like to use nero or to convert HD video files - DVD Fab - ripping HD blu rays - etc, - mostly that type -

its very confusing - i been trying to look at MB and cant figure it out -

is MSI z77M power - any good ? seems to have alot of stuff - just a few sata3 for 6gig speed - rest are sata3 3 gig -- why only two for 6gig speed -

i have a SSD for my boot drive and two WD blacks all sata3 6gig speed - one of them will have to run at the slower speed - if i went with this board

i want a MB which has a 3.0 usb internal so i can connect my front panel 3.0 usb wire -- i do like that i has a Cmos clear button on the rear panel -- would make it easy for me to clear if i needed it -

but then it can be touched easily also - so not sure which is best - to have it or not -

this is all going in a Corsair 300R case -

by any chance - my Case does not have mounting screws when you place the board in the case to screw it down -

the case itself has raised mounts - just wondering if thats ok - i heard something about boards getting shorted - but cant remember if it was for this reason or not -

i am double guessing everything now - that i had some bad luck so far --

back to the i7 -- i dont even know which socket this is - i seen MB -- and not sure which one i should be looking for --

i been with AMD for the longest so never followed Intel - no reason just was fine with my older AMD - but not - i am ready for a change - and get a performance boost at the same time -

i cant get a grip on all these boards and features etc, - i am not looking to spend 300 on a board - too much - i wont use all those features -
i do up to 200 if i have to - but if i can get lower in price and get a stable decent has what i want and need would be great

i see Gigabyte has decent prices - but now i am worried since its the board i am sending back now - was for the AMD FM2 -- afraid to try them again -

all i see thats left - Asus and MSI - those the brands i remember most the longest - the others i seen but unsure of quality -

i am not sure what chipset the boards have to be - also this i7 comes with intergrated video also - so i wont need a video card ?

thats what i want for now - i wont really need one if i am not gaming

thanks - i am so tired of looking things up - and getting more confused -

go for the 3570k, any z77 motherboard (BTW ivy bridge cpu's are on socket 1155) some 1600mhz CL9 ram and a decent video card since most z77 boards dont even have any ports for video connectivity due to the expectation that you will want a higher performing video card for the system (having a dedicated graphics card will also make the video rippng quite a bit faster) also as to your concern about your hard drives... even though your western digital hard drives are optimized for sata 3 6gbit/sec running them on sata 2 3gbit/sec will not affect them since those drives can only read and write at speeds of about 1gbit/sec both asus and msi are great motherboard manufacturers however i would also recommend asrock

I'd say the other way. Asus boards usually cost more than Asrock for the same specs and I've only boughten crap from them.

I was looking at the 3370k for the fact that i wont need a video card - reason for this chip - i wont be doing gaming -

would you say the video end of the i7 chip is as good or better than the video end on the new APU A10 from AMD ? thats the chip i am using right now -

the idea was since i am changing out this board - memory and chip - i was thinking of just getting the i7 with a board and more memory -

would that not work better for me ?

if i have to add a video card to the mix - will add to the cost - i am not sure what would be a good decent video card -

if i hae to add a video card - then i can also consider the AMD FX chip ? with 8 cores ? or just get the i7 and if i need more video later on - i can add a card then ? would that work

with the MB - i was looking at MSI z77mpower - not sure if thats a decent board for the i7 -

i just want everything to work together - stable from the start -

both my dvd drives use Sata cables - would it affect the drives performance if the dvd drives are connected on the slower Sata ports - Sata 3 3 gig speed instead of the Sata 3 6 gig speed ?

can anyone add some links to some of the MB models i should look at -

i know this is the intel section - but between the two chips - AMD FX 8350 8 core - and this i7 3770k - which one would be better - overall

if i go with FX - i need video card right away - cost is less for the chip - but have to add the video -

with i7 - cost is more but dont need video card -

which models of the MSI brand would you recommend - and which models of the ASUS brand -

so i can look them over -

also - reason for changing out the parts is - i am having a problem with the screen just goes black and system reboots on its own -

i am just browsing the web and it happens -

temps. cant be high -

my PSU is a Corsiar TX750 - didnt have any issues with this PSU before i started this build - its the only device i carried over - everything else i have is brand new -

OCZ vertex 4 SSD - boot drive

WD Black for storage x 2

blu ray writer and dvd drive -

gigabyte FM2 up4 board - with the A10 Cpu - Crucial tracer memory 8 gig kit -

i am hoping with a new board - chip memory - this would solve this problem - i cant think of anything that would cause my computer to just go to a black screen and reboot - i dont get any error codes just when its starting again - it asks me to pick to boot in windows normal mode or safe mode etc, - i pick normal and thats it -

when i shut down - it reboots also - dosnt shut down on its own when i click shut down in windows - have to hold the power button to shut it down - or maybe if i hit force shut down when windows is shutting down to close any programs running it may work that way

i do have the antec 920 cooler with there software installed - which i think is not working correctly - swaping out the cooler also -

this is driving me crazy - shouldnt happen on a brand new build with new parts -

either way - i will RMA it back - and start fresh - just cant decide now which is the best way to go - i7 or FX chip - is the i7 video as good as the A10 from AMD ? trying to stick with a chip with video if i can - or else have to pick a card which i am not sure which one is decent also without spending $200 on a card -
