Low VBAT on A8N-SLI Premium

post #1 of 16
Thread Starter
Ok I've had nothing but problems with the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboards. This is the 2nd one.

The latest news is last night whilst playing BF2 my computer froze several times, requiring a manual restart each time. Upon POSTing I received this error;

CMOS Checksum Failure - Default Settings Loaded.

After loading into XP I checked my voltages through Everest and noticed that the VBAT Battery was 1.60v and the VBAT should be around 3.00v.

I replaced the battery with a new 3v Lithium and upon checking voltages again the VBAT Battery was 2.00v still low. This isn't looking good and I'm not sure what it could be... Motherboard, PSU???? PLEASE Help me!!!

Well its doubtfully the PSU in this case mate. Dounds like it could be a motherboard issue. Howeve make sure that all Motherboard power is properly connected and such also make sure the Lithium battery is properly seated.

Sometimes the vbat isnt read in windows properly, its only needed to store the bios, but if its resetting the c-mos on eash restart then there is a setting that needs changing in the bios, something like reset configuration data or there a jumper on the mobo that resets it, I had one on my foxconn mobo

Hey man, just read mine it says 3.02V so you definately have a shortage of power to the bat. I dont know much about the problem but if its a BIOS issue, PM me with some of your settings and i will compare em to mine, see which ones are different. Might find a solution, might not. Ive had nothing but joy with my board so i guess you deserve that joy to!

Thanks for the reply people!

Ok I've checked the connections, checked that the battery is seated properly, and checked the bios settings thoroughly. I've checked it with a spare PSU I got and I'm 99.99% convinced its the mobo because it crashed again and upon restart the vbat voltage dropped to 1.86v.

Checked the jumpers and they are in the correct position.

What a pain in the backside.

The first one was returned to the place from where I purchased it, they kindly just replaced it there and then, the 2nd has been in use for about 6 months and just wasn't sure what was going on, but this is just rediculous.

It will be RMA'd first thing asap.

I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.....
