[Telegraph] LCD Display integrated in contact lenses

Ghent University's centre of microsystems technology has developed a spherical curved LCD display which can be embedded in contact lenses and handle projected images using wireless technology.

"Now that we have established the basic technology, we can start working towards real applications, possibly available in only a few years," said Professor Herbert De Smet.

Unlike previous contact lens displays, which are limited to a few small pixels to make up an image, the new technology allows the whole curved surface of the lens to be used.

Contact lenses are quite fragile, and also disposable. Wonder how much a pair of these costs to manufacture

Even if you put that on you probably would not be able to see that sign.

It depends. I think they will implement this in 'hard' lenses, which are usually used for about a year before thrown away.

The downside of 'hard' lenses is that it depends on your eyes if they work. I have really dry eyes so they didn't work quite well for me. They sometimes just popped out and refused to absorb liquid after about 3 months usage.

I wonder how good for the eye would that be. To have to focus on things so near, let aside the radiation.
