Best $100 headset out now?

Basically my dad wants to get me a headset for Christmas, and I just need to know what the best headset is for the $100 mark. I keep seeing the Corsair Vengeance 1500 listed in older forum posts, but I'm not sure if that's still the recommended one.

from the little I've gathered reading a few threads like http://www.overclock.net/t/368653/ocnhc-guide-to-gaming-headphones-headsets/0_100 and http://www.overclock.net/t/512436/ocn-headphones-club/0_100 I wouldnt have expectations on "gamer" stuff. I've found this doesn't apply to creative Aurvana, yet no more info on it. All in all, I'd recommend you spend some time reading that while someone more experience responds to you. I've been doing that and already asked for advice. Its quite a crusade for a newcomer

These are great headphones and they are on sale. Then get a Zalman clip on mic http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00029MTMQ/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new (get the one from ComegaCity).

Granted you will a bit above your price point, but these are wayyyyyyy better quality for the money.

Audio Technica M50s have such a small soundstage that it's useless to use them for competitive gaming. If you're trying at all to use them for hearing footsteps, you're wasting your time. You'll heard the footsteps and not have an idea where they're coming from until it's too late. Soundstage is just one of the many qualities a headphone must have in order to be good for gaming. The M50s are not gaming headphones unless all you care about is explosion immersion or play RPGs where audio advantage gaming isn't necessary.

TS, you're better off buying either AD700s and a mic if you want to play FPS shooters and don't care for bass immersion or RH600s+Xonar DG+Mic if you don't have a soundcard, or SR850s if you want to game, but want a little bass, +Xonar DG+Mic.

If advantage gaming means nothing to you and you're looking for a good headset for comfort, mic quality and most importantly ease of use.. then consider the Carcharias or Logitech G15s.

Zalman picks up a TON of background noise and static. It really is a poor mic, but it's cheap and that's the selling point along with it being able to clip on to things. The Logitech USB desktop mic is much better at 13 dollars.

True. I like them for gaming because of their noise isolation. I did use some software to increase the sound stage a bit, and after a while I got used to them.

Ah. Well I don't have a lot of back ground noise, so that would explain that. I have never noticed any static though. Nor has anyone else. Maybe I just got lucky?

What about something like this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836191010 I have always been curious to see how good it was, but I have been happy with my zalman so there wasn't any need.
