Donkey does bring up a good point about Haswell. We are going to eventually have to look at what sort of numbers they are going to generate and unless we start making a new class just for them and the SB-E just to preserve the Ivy and Sandy's numbers, it very well may be that those of us who have the older chips are just going to have to deal with the point differentials.

I just think that eventually the 2xxx and 3xxx i7's will have to eventually be the "low man on the totem pole" as far as the i7 categories go. Just like my 965EE i7 is now technically considered a "CAT3" chip (and speaking of the 965EE i7, you might want to update the post to include the 965EE since it says "i7 920-960", but I digress).

[Edit]

Typed 690 instead of 960 and "Wildcard" instead of "CAT3".

That's my exact point.

My mistake, I typo'd . It read's 920-960, not 920-690.

You are 1 of 4 Captains that's actively out recruiting while the other 17 wait until Editors do it. Sorry, for the short, direct response but I'm at work tongue.gif

First off, there is a HUGE difference between IB/SB and SB-E price wise. I wasn't saying $500 for a new setup, I was talking just for the CPU.

vs.

is a huge difference.

Second, if there are other SB-E folders out there who are interested in the TC, we need them to join into D3 first so we can get some adaquate data on these chips. I'm not against adding them to the i7-1 slot, but I'd like to know the potential impact before we do. Honestly, that's all my argument boils down to is that we need data that we don't have.

There are more PPD numbers out there for 3930Ks on various A4 units.  I guess I can compile them here if that makes it easier.  But generally they will do 70-90k PPD on SMP with a descent OC.

Not to change the thread or anything but how many OCN users out there are folding on the new FX AMD CPU'S & the APU'S?What kind of PPD are they getting?

True, but then again, much of that price is because it is "new".

I still remember when I bought my i7 965EE, I paid $1099 for it. Now, it's considered a sub par CPU that is a CAT 3 folder. New always means more expensive.

My only concern is what is the PPD delta.
