And for Clocknut... You understand that the higher the Res, the less work the CPU has to do in relation to the GPU, right? CPU bottleneck hurts at low res, not high res.
check what I said, I did specify @ 1920 & 2560 resolution. a single 560-570 is more than enough to feed Q9550 @ those resolution

It still doesnt make sense to take GTX670 on those resolution @ Q9550, if he want to insist on eyefinity resolution then Radeon 7900 is a better choice.

Yes but DX11 was still in its infancy when most of those GPUs were coming out. No one really knew how much Vram was enough for most DX11 titles out there. There are still only a handlful of games that use DX11 at the moment. Game engines are becoming more and more efficient these days anyway, so the need for such an obscene amount of Vram is not there.

2GB is the sweet spot if you ask me. I can't begin to see that being used up with single monitor gaming within the next two years. Heck, even BF3 with everything turned up to it's maximum juuust starts to creep up to that point if you use one of those crazy 2560x1600 screens, but no one uses those. tongue.gif

If I play on the Ultra preset (bf3), I get above 1.5GB vram usage. I use a 1600x1200 monitor. I know it is just a few games that do it, but I have a quite sane monitor and I don't think 1.5GB is enough.

For me, Skyrim with a few texture mods pushes 2.3-2.5gb of VRAM usage @1080p. I know VRAM usage scales with how much is available, but still. Also, 1440p is getting relatively popular lately with the Korean IPSs, and that has requirements similar to 1600p; not to mention Eyefinity.

Not many people use anything over 1080p, but that isn't exactly a concern on a flagship $400+ GPU. Also, due to Crossfire, Eyefinity, etc., it's better for a flagship GPU to have too much VRAM for normal use, rather than too little for the more extreme situations the card is designed for.
