Twice as fast? Possibly more? Possibly less?

8870 is the smart buy here, any dual gpu card is just overpriced the only reason to get one is for quad fire in my opinion.

I agree with your opinion!

However my upgrade route has always been skip a generation or two and buy mid range cards so you can upgrade more often geforce 2---> to geforce 6100 --> 7900 gs---> 9800 gt --> 460 then 460 x2 I should have went with a 660 ti then sli them a few months later however at the 300 dollar price tag i decided just to wait for the next gen for a bigger upgrade but to be honest my 460s still run great at 1440p I just want a flagship card for once with the 8970 and more ram ( I want to run some mods!!! and not run out of Vram)

12gb is definitely possible as 6gb per core is available now. Wonder why the 8970 is not being considered for 6gb (per core) thinking.gif

I was planning on buyin two 7990 on 7th February 2013. But that doesnt make too much sense, doesnt it.
I'll be living on my Integrated GPU (3770K) until the 8990 comes out and will hold off on buying the 7990s then.

is this a new architecture or just a process shrink/tweaks for the 7 series?
