Multiplier falls under load?

Thread Starter
I have the Multiplier set to 42x in the BIOS and this is confirmed in CPU-Z or AIDA64 CPUID.

When I perform a stress test (either Prime95 or AIDA64), this multiplier falls to 40x.

I see the same thing regardless of BCLK or voltage.

Shouldn't it be higher under load? What gives?

I also notice the CPU throttling bar in AIDA64 always remains at 0%.

Thanks for any help.

I should add that this doesn't seem to be temperature related. Literally the second I click 'start' in the AIDA64 stress test, the multiplier drops to 40x, and as soon as I click 'stop' it moves back up to 42x. The temperature remains in 50's/60's in both cases.

The same is true of prime95.

What motherboard? It might be power throttling, did you turn up the power limits in the BIOS?

I didn't turn up the power limits, what values should I set them to? Motherboard is asus p8z77-v lx.

Not sure if that board has percentages or actual values, but you can just put them all the way up. It won't hurt anything to have them too high.
