SMOKE IS COMING OUT OF MY COMPUTER

I was plugging in a LED fan and I guess I plugged in the LED +/- in the wrong place and when I turned the power supply on I started seeing smoke and I think I saw smoke coming out of the graphics card. The wires are now melted. What should I do? I'll be back in around 20 minutes to reply to you guys! thanks!

Where did you plug it into? Does your computer turn on at all after this fan has been unplugged?

I just tried booting it again, and it looks like everything is running again. I don't know if the fan works though. I connected the LED in some random 2 pin socket because that was the only socket I saw that had 2 pins. I still need help finding where to connect the LED +/-
post #4 of 42
Please never again try to plug something into a random spot. You can get a molex adapter for your fan if your motherboard doesn't have another 3-4pin for it.
the wires that come with the case all plug into the motherboard at the bottom right usually. check your motherboard manual.

Do you have a fan with the 3 pin and a 2 pin connector on it? If so you need to plug the 3 pin to the motherboard or a molex 3pin to 4 pin adapter and hook the 2 pin plug to an on and off switch to turn the led on and off. Thats how it is on my haf-x. That about what your setup looks like? Maybe a pic of the setup?

This is the connector I am trying to plug in, I can't find it no where in the motherboard
The connection to the fan I have available and started spinning when I turned it on , the problem was that I connected the wire below in the wrong place I guess

This is a terrible idea. Your motherboard will have a manual that it came with that labels everything, you can find out what goes where by referencing it. If you for some reason you threw it away the manufacturer's website should host it as well. Never just plug things in randomly, although it will give people like me more business.

Most LED fans are powered through a fan header on the mobo or connecting directly to a molex connector from the psu. Are you saying your fan has just that pictured connector, or does it have two connectors? Can you show us a picture of the entire fan and everything coming off of it?

EDIT: You can also link us to a product page depicting your fan.

I had the exact same problem once, everything but the fan should be fine.

In my scenario, the fan still worked because I only burned the LED and ground wires (Molex). It still worked with only the live wire plugged into it.

Well I read over the manual and didn't find where to plug in, then i saw 2 a pin connection on the mother board and tried it. I am reading the manual right and looks like I plugged the LED cable into the HDMI port
