GTX 480 SLI and Geforce 210 for 3 monitors - Page 7

When they are in slot "1" and "3" SLI doesn't work anymore. Which is how I had this set up working before I bought the GeForce 210.
Edit: As my friend brings it up to me, apparently slots 1 and 5 are optimal anyway. Which is PCIe x16_1 & PCIe x16/x8_3

I really have to give it to you, trying BF3 on ultra with GTX 480 SLI in surround. You probably ran out of Vram as soon as you loaded a map. My friend who plays it a lot almost maxes out his 1.2GB on his GTX 470 SLI in a single 1080p screen.

As far as the board, I don't know how many native lanes AM3+ has but I'll put money on there being a PLX chip somewhere that may have switched the lane assignments when you added the 3rd card that is causing the problem now.

Have you tried updating your mobo drivers?

You have em in the right slots then. It shouldn't have worked the other way is the weird part. The second full size pcie slot runs at 1x until pcie slots 1 and 3 (the slots you have them in) are in use then it scales up to 8x. If I am not mistaken bulldozer/piledriver only has 16 native pci express lanes like sandy and ivy do. 1366 and 2011 are the only ones with 32x native that I know of. Sounds like you got it figured out.

It wasn't so much as I tried to play it on ultra, so much as it loaded into ultra already. I run it on ultra 55-60 FPS solid on a 1080p screen when both are running properly. It only hesitates to maybe 45 when everything really hits the fan.

So theoretically I shouldn't have even had SLI work in PCIe 1 and PCIe 2? Running multi-gpu is kinda new to me, so I didn't even consider it as an option. I figured it'd be the first 2 slots.

You can run on high with about 55-65 fps. No aa and ssao. Its pretty useful for bf3. I've caught a few folks running at me with the side monitors and saved myself a knife in the chest. Medium is a bit smoother running around 70ish. I don't see much diff tho except with fps.

Important thing is its working!! tongue.gif

I'm not personally a fan of the surround because of the out-of-game-multi-monitor-crap. I was able to slide the GeForce 210 into the middle slot and use that for Aux monitors though!

I am still puzzled, is SLI supposed to work in slot PCIe slot 1 and PCIe slot 2? All I know is, it doesn't, and it used to. If it was never "supposed" to work I guess then whatever; but if it is supposed to function I'd rather send it out to be repaired while it's still under warranty. Any ideas?

Its supposed to from what I know. But I'm not familiar with amd stuff... coz logically when putting your cards in, you'd put it in the first two pcie slots. With the maximus it works fine in 1st and 2nd.. and as you said.. its worked before

I would put your cards into the slots which will run two cards at x16 when using two cards. If that does not work than I would definitely send the board back. It sucks to be without it, but when you have everything working things will seem so much better.

Yeah I currently have the 480s in PCIe slot 1 and PCIe slot 3. Which is apparently "the most optimal." And everything is functioning properly. I'm using a MSI GeForce 210 in PCIe slot 2 to power my 2 Aux monitors.

I do have a question though. When running in "surround," (off of just the 480s) is there anyway to not get the poopy desktop interface with aero snap-in utilizing the entire screen? I use the snap-in feature to maximize windows to one monitor, and it obviously doesn't function properly with how surround works and snaps it to a surround experience. I'm sorry I don't need 3 monitors dedicated to facebook!

I cannot thank you all enough for the help you have given me.
