Linux + GeForce 670 = NO OVERCLOCKING

My last NVIDIA card was GeForce 260.

I didn't even think to research the overclockability of the 600series... it turns out that since Fermi NVIDIA has failed to provide us with overclocking support in their drivers.

To make matters worse, I see a clock speed of 700Mhz instead of the factory OC of 1000Mhz. I want to believe it is simply showing 700 and running at 1000. However, Windows scores higher in the Heaven benchmark... and I'm getting nearly the same performance out of my gpu programs as I did with 2 overclocked 260s.

I hope there is a fix I have not found....

And your title says it all. Fermi = No Overclocking under linux. There is no fix, the driver still does not support it.

This article is two years old and overclocking support is still missing

Should have gotten a 7970. I've always prefered NVIDIA. This may be a turning point for me.

There has been a theory floating around that it has to do with PowerMizer; if you can figure out how to disable powermizer and set coolbits 5 in your xorg.conf you may be able to overclock fermi/kepler; This is purely theory... The old powermizer registry dwords in xorg.conf don't seem to work anymore. Another theory is that if you could change the powermizer profiles powermizer would overclock the chip. Obviously this wouldn't allow voltage control. I've been toying with it the past couple of days, and the only other option I can see is bios-level overclocking, which is a much more viable option. Basically edit the bios using NiBiTor and flash it... Since this is hardware level, the nVidia drivers can't hinder it. I'd be careful with it, even though bios level overclocking is far superior to software controlled, its also far more dangerous...

If you go the bios route, you'll also want to up voltages. There are a ton of tuts for it, unfortunately you either have to have windows or wine, windows makes it easier to flash but that's not a big issue if you use a usb drive to dos.

I just noticed nvidia-settings shows the correct speed. How long did that take, NVIDIA?
