Hello!

Thread Starter
Well Hi to every one.

I hope this is where I post,am new to the site and first post here.

I am so glad I found this site.. I'm 60 yr old and this is first computer that I intend to build. I saw the case mods on the cooler master storm and fell in love with that case and the things you can do to it. You guys are totally off the wall with the mods that some of you do!!! I had no idea that these things could be done!! So I'm making a list of what I think I need but it keeps growing, cuz I don't want to build cheap just to get buy, I'd rather build some life into a system than just a get buy rig. So I started my list with the idea of using an AMD FX 4170 with a ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0,Cooler master Hyper 212 EVO, may go with masscool 7WA868 instead, Sapphire Radeon 7770,mabe 2 cards,Thermaltake W0382RU 750 watt psu,Crucial Ballistix 16 GB ram, I'll buy a 4-pk 0f 4x8,haven't decided on a HD or if I need an SSD, DVD players are cheap so just a good one for that.

My computer tech keeps telling me I'm going over board but if I want to start playing some games and I just go buy an off the shelf, pre built system then it will be out dated in 2yr and I'll be limited to what ever the manufacture gives me.If I build it my way I no yhat I really have a great rig. Now you guys are going to ask what do you use this for and what is your budget. Rite now I check my E mail and surf the net but I have grad kids that will really love me and they can show Grand Pa whats going on with his new kick ass rig!!! Pluss I can give it to them if I decide I need to build some thing better.

Now after reading for 3 or 4 guys on this site I'm thinking I should go with Intel instead, ASUS P8Z77-V LX board, Intel core i5-3570K, Sapphire Radeon 7770 x 2, and the other stuff above. It looks like to me even though Intel is more money that it is just the better way to go for a new build and a little longer life span. I was hoping to stay at first in the 500$ range but I think it will be 800-1000$ by the time I decide witch way to go with the build....

So now that I have put my ideas out there, I tinker with things, like in 1972 I bought a 1962 GMC 5 ton stake body truck with a 235 V-6 to use for a tree cutting business I had..... It got 4-5 mpg loaded or not,60 mph max speed on the highway, screaming like it was going to blow up...... For 30 min work and 5$ in parts I made it get 22 MPG with a full load on it in down town Miami,Fla, stop and go traffic!!!!!! I no that there are car guys on this site, what I did WILL WORK WITH ANY CARBURETOR car or truck..... Now for something a little newer, I bought a 1993 Ford T-Bird in 1998 with 10,000 mi on a rebuilt motor, 170 lb comp. all cylinders,it had an EEC 4 comp in it,( a comp that only wishes it had a brain) 3.8 V-6 stock, 22 mpg every day maybe, I put maybe 300$ in parts and 4 hr work and drove the car to work 110 mi round trip every day 6 days a week for 5 yr AT 39 MPG every day, there is a Gas additive I use that would give me 43 MPG with it in the gas.......SOOO I'll share my little tricks with any one that is willing to help guide me in this build of mine.....By the way FYI the tricks I used on these two vehicles will not work with an OBD II comp controlled vehicle, I'm testing another trick for that but may not work because you have to re write the program for OBD II don't no yet but I'll let you guys no if I figure it out........

Ok your a great bunch of guys, so any help for the OLD guy would be GREAT!!!!!

Welcome to OCN! We do in fact endorse the use of paragraphs here. tongue.gif

Make sure you get lots of pictures when you start purchasing parts for your new rig, and make a build log thread. Everyone loves a good build log, and they usually attract a lot of attention for pointers and advice.

Hello and welcome!

I was wondering why you wanted to get 2x 7770's. You can save the space and heat buy going with 1 7870 for the same price or throw another $40 at it and get a 7950. I would always go with a single good card before I would get 2 ok cards.

Good luck on your build! thumb.gif
