Looking for a trustworthy, fast and lasting laptop.

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

My friend is looking for a good laptop that he can use for everything. By everything it includes gaming, multimedia and some productive stuff.

Basically he was researching on the internet and found a very nice HP laptop, however he read on the internet that HP laptops face some issues. He found that ASUS laptops are very reputable.

So.. Could you guys suggest some laptops?

Thanks biggrin.gif

prefer thinkpads. might not look pretty but proven track record of durability and can be customized to suit your needs

Thinkpads and gaming don't mix.

Your friend's budget should be around $1,400 for a solid machine that can do anything he wants. If that's a little too high, then the Lenovo Y580 is there for that reason. $850 gets you an i7, GTX 660M, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, and a 720p screen. Nothing fancy really. The screen is the downside to the whole machine. However I don't think that 1366x768 on a 15.6" screen looks bad necessarily. >.>

The Y580 is a great choice for gaming, however, keep in mind that they are part of Lenovo's Ideapad line, which is for consumers and is just as durable as a standard HP or dell you see at Best Buy. Also, they do come with 1080p screens now, so make sure you get that model instead. My friend was able to nab one for $800 on black friday, they are around $1000 with the barnes and noble gold discount.

To be honest, my T430 (thinkpad line) has had its fair share of issues in terms of durability, less so than a consumer based laptop, but quality of thinkpads has gone down with lenovo taking over. I would suggest looking into the HP Pro/Elitebooks if you want reliability or durability. Those get heavy and costly fast if you want more powerful graphics cards though.

The latest games I guess. Some team fortress 2 and crysis 3 when it comes. All ranges of games.

Resolution can be anything for 15inch laptop. A good resolution would be the highest for that screen size.

Will be buying the laptop from local stores.

Budget of around US$1000.

Like the previous post if you can find a Lenovo Y580 there are various models. There is a model thats about 1050 usd that has a 1080p screen. But its specs are an i7 quad 8gb ddr3 and a gtx 660m. Don't expect to play Crysis 3 too well on it but it should play it. It is likely also the only good gaming laptop at that budget. Note: Crysis 3 is stating you need a GTX 680 to max it likely at 1080p so they are saying it will be extremely demanding.
