Audio Technica ATH-AD700's on the way, still need a mic.

Thread Starter
I'm finally ditching my Siberia V2's for AD700's -- I had a few questions:
  1. Will there be a NOTICEABLE increase in sound stage?
The Siberia's are closed-design and have a 50 mm driver, 28,000 hz max frequency response and a 32 ohms impedance.
The AD700's are open-design and have a 53 mm driver, 30,000 hz max frequency response and a 32 ohms impedance.
  2. Where can I find a Labtec LVA 7330--or alternative--UNI-directional mic?
I can't find any direct retailers. Amazon is selling some through a third-party seller. I was considering going with the Antlion mic mod, but I reconsidered. I am currently using the Zalman clip mic, since the retractable V2 mic stopped working a year ago, and I hate the omni-directional recording, it peaks up EVERY little noise in my room.

For reference, I have a Creative Titanium sound card. I only play FPS games.

Thanks for the reply bumblebee1980.

I've looked into the Antlion mic mod already. It is a omnidirectional mic, which is what I currently have with the Zalman clip mic, and it is extremely sensitive to EVERY noise in the room.

I would prefer to use a unidirectional mic.

Heh, I have that same set up. AD700's with the ZM-MIC1. I actually like this mic, very loud and clear when used in games and only cost me $4

the only other microphone I know of good quality is the Blue Snowball. it's cardioid and omni-directional. this means it can pick up everything in front of you while minimizing volume of everything around you.

UPDATE:

I picked up the AD700's -- They are great.. Awesome sound stage. These cans are huge.

QUESTION: I now want to make sure I have the best configuration for these headphones. As I mentioned I have a Creative Titanium sound card. These are my settings.

1. Under Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab > Configure: 5.1 Speaker configuration
2. Creative Control Panel Settings:
  • Audio Mode: Game Mode
  • Speaker Configuration: 5.1
  • Disabled: EAX Effects, X-fi CMSS 3D, X-fi Crystalizer,
3. In my CS:GO and every other FPS games I have speaker configuration set to 5.1

Hi Simca. At this point, I'm settling on using the Zalman clip mic with my AD700's -- I can't find the Labtec mic for the AD700 boom mic mod, but I'll figure out something in the near future.

What I really want to know is whats the "best" software audio settings I should use with my setup?

I want to know what Windows side sound settings should be, in-game audio settings, and what I should have configured inside Creative control panel (I.E. What sound mode, xfi-CMSS 3D, Speaker config., ect.)

Supposedly those with X-fi cards claim that 5.1 speaker mode with CMSS-3D is best for X-fi cards.

I prefer headphone mode or stereo+Nothing else.

Lower volume settings on mic to reduce excess noise.
