[Kotaku] The Good And Bad of Battlefield 3, One Year (Or So) Later - Page 11

The whole "premium" BS is what pissed me off the most. Had they released that package on day one it wouldn't have been a big deal, but they choose to release it a few months later to milk and split the BF community, which irritated me to no end. On the bright, EA/DICE taught me a very valuable lesson, never pre-order game and not to pay a single dollar for another product made by them.

How is battlelog a POS? I'm just curious what you didn't like about it.

Why do I have to install yet more software (i.e. the browser addons), open up a browser, and browse a web page? Why cant I launch the game and pick a server from in there?

My avatar made my opinion predictable? Is that why I gave love to BC2?

I liked BattleLog, I was hesitant at first, but it seems to offer more than most games now. To be honest, with the vast majority of folks having 12gb of RAM, SSD's and Core i7's... I don't believe a browser add on is the end of the world... but that's my opinion.

Sure, you could open up a game and pick a server from there... but at the same time, why can't you do it from a web browser. I think the flexibility that BLog adds, as well as the add-ons makes it a winner. Can you ever imagine EA implementing a hacker tracker and server radar lists.

I think once you get over the initial "oh my God, CHANGE!" feeling... it's quite a good way to access servers. Me gusta.

It's not fear of change, it's hate for redundancy. There is no point to it, and it's the slower method of the two. If people want their stats, they could visit Battlelog on their own, or better yet, have an in-game browser ala Steam to show them their stats.

Bf1942 is what made the series, I would rather they would have removed the commander who was a useless teamkiller most of the time and brought back the naval ships and huge tank and air maps.

As for bf3; to me it is the only game that provides exceptional infantry and vehicle combat. For example Planetside 2 scale is like no other, but the infantry combat just flat out sucks, and unlocking guns and upgrades is the longest grind ever unless you pay. Also yes you are serious disadvantaged if u do not have these upgrades for example not having flares or missiles etc in planetside 2 you are doomed against other players. Bf3 is the same but it takes no where as long to unlock these things.

No way, you're dreaming. BF2 is what brought Battlefield to the masses. It had the longest popular run of any one shooter other than Counter Strike perhaps.

3. No commander isn't a big deal (only one BF in the series had it). It has VIOP just not public and most people use Mumble anyway. Worse than CoD teamwork? What a joke, you obviously haven't played either series recently to have said something like that.
4. It may have had more console influence during development than it should have but at lest it wasn't nearly as bad as any recent PC attempt at CoD. Scaled down? Explain what has been scaled down please because the scale of BF3 is bigger than any other FPS. Some people enjoy single player when they don't have internet access. If anything it should continue if solely to be there for people new to the game so they can practice without going into the online portion as a total noob.
5. So a game can't release DLC? How is it CoD like again? More weapons, vehicles, assignments, dog tags, maps, and gametypes but that isn't enough for it to be a good DLC in your eyes...
6. Battlelog works completely fine. It is a little different than what people are used to but it completely intuitive and simple to get information from as well as easy to join matches. If you can't use battlelog I don't understand how you can use the rest of the internet.
7. Random nonsense that means nothing.
Sounds like you never played BF3 or you tried it during launch and complained and ran away from it. Please don't misinform people that your misguided info is anything other than personal grief.

1. "AA Missiles are more difficult to dodge in Jets, this was unintended behavior that created an imbalance against skilled pilots." - point basically proven
2. Teamwork! If your working together properly they will always be in the proper area of them map.
3. No in-game voip = a lack of basic teamwork abilities. Simple fact. Not everyone is part of a gaming community with a mumble server.
4. "BF3 is bigger than any other FPS." Must I even reply to that?
5. They can release DLC, it's simply getting old with the $15 for a few maps and weapons. So for almost a third of the price of the whole game I get a few maps, 5 different times...
6. "If you can't use battlelog I don't understand how you can use the rest of the internet. " Putting words in my mouth, I'm not retarded. Battlelog is ridiculous, why use a web interface when you could put all of the same features into a nicely packaged in-game interface?

"Sounds like you never played BF3 or you tried it during launch and complained and ran away from it, Please don't misinform people that your misguided info" -no commander, no voip, squad member spawns, expensive DLC, and the fact that console development + singleplayer dev time could have been spent making a better multiplayer (like BF2 and those prior). Not sure how I'm misguiding people.

What is the competetive scene of BF3 like? Is there one? It would be neat to hop in vent with 32 people, have different channels for the different squads, and squad leaders can talk with the other squads to coordinate attacks and what not. Have a commander which all the squad leaders report to and the commander makes decisions. THAT would be cool.

I've always enjoyed the competetive scene in games more often than just pubbing (played leagues for CS, CSS, DODS, CSGO) that's probably why I played BF3 a little, but didn't really get into it.

Most recently I've been getting into Black Ops 2 (on xbox don't lynch me, thats where people I know play it) and it's been fun. Looking forward to getting into clan matches.

There is a point to it and you just kinda pointed that out.. Everything is in one place so one doesn't have to go to multiple places in order to check their stats or something like that. I actually found Battlelog to be kinda nicer than an in-game server browser and honestly, the game launches into servers fast enough for me so it's not all that inconvenient. I guess it comes down to preference, but Battlelog has definitely been a welcomed change for me.

So far the biggest problems I've had with the game are the community itself and the fact I haven't been able to play it as much as I wish I could due to a defective video card frown.gif I like how the game has progressed though and it really gets me excited for BF4. I have faith that DICE will learn from the past and make it an even better experience.

I find the "love BC2, hate BF3" thing curious. BC2 is easily the most un-Battlefield-like Battlefield game ever made. Bad Company was just Battlefield for consoles essentially and as such it plays a lot differently to previous titles and BF3. It seemed to be more like a spinoff than an actual BF game.

As for Battlelog, BC2 had the buggiest server browser in the history of everything. At least Battlelog actually lets me join every time.

TLDR: I wish the DLC was free or at least inexpensive.

4: God help us all with this one. I wish they'd just leave us alone.
5: Stopped buying nVidia because this type of thing happened to me a lot way back when.
Please go on about 1-3 because I never noticed those things.

1. You shoot, enemy shoots back. Then you take cover. The enemy doesn't shoot at you but you receive damage and die afterwards.
2. Punkbuster kicks me EVERY GODDAMNED TIME I try to connect to a PB'd server, tried everything they told me to do, doesn't work.
3. When I want to switch to my sidearm, my main weapon is pulled down then pulled up again instead of my pistol. Getting killed in the process because of lag.
