[Kotaku] The Good And Bad of Battlefield 3, One Year (Or So) Later - Page 4

So I pretty much agree with all the complaints. Having played BF forever, my pet peeves generally go in this order:

1. Classes? Why make it so that in order to do the best in a map that isn't the size of a shoebox, I have to be engineer. They have all the anti-vehicle stuff. Okay, so support has C4, and I roll with that on some of the smaller maps with vehicles. But honestly, recons got nothing, assault is useful on smaller BC2 sized maps, and support is sort of okay because of infinite ammo. Dice should have balanced the classes better if they were going to roll with the gimped four classes.

2. Gun variety? All the guns are either exactly the same as all the others (okay, so maybe there are a very small number of exceptions), or there is one that is exactly the same except one slightly better stat, making it the go to gun.

3. Map balance? How about testing that pretty scenery in combat and realising the Russians get to 75% of the map before encountering US on average. So maybe thats a slight exaggeration, still noticeable in some maps.

3. No teamwork, commander, voip, blah blah blah you know the rest.

4. Net lag. Getting shot around corners. It does happen and isn't my imagination. It's actually quite noticeable.

5. Dying when trying to walk over a small rock. It happens, don't be ashamed.

5. Blue glasses. They just suck.

If anything, this is my biggest complaint. It was done early after the release in a flurry of forum posts about guns being too powerful or not enough. The problem is that the game is... a game. People want XP to unlock better utilities and to gain ranking, because of this people just use the highest powered weapons. People have also been conditioned to balance over the last decade from playing the metric A-ton of generic MEH multiplayer XP driven gun games.

It's a tug and pull situation. The game has tons of guns, nice models, attachments ect. but some people wouldn't touch the game if there wasn't an 'end goal' or some crap to unlock resulting in an internal sim vs. arcade struggle.

Where is the problem exactly? Oh, basically the same? Then use whatever gun you want. Jeez, if you are going to complain about something don't go on about options.
2: Have never had that happen to me in the 7 hours that I have played the game. (Only got the game recently.)
3: Not a cheater if they are just skilled.
4: DLC is bad? Then I can safely assume you just got BF1942 and never got Road to Rome or Secret Weapons of WWII?
5: Never had that problem.
6: Then don't do them? Jeez, you are sounding like you they are at your house and have you at gun-point.
...

1 - The point is why have all these guns when they have largely been nerfed to the point they are all the same bar a selct few that are the only sensible choice now. (It didnt used to be this way the nerf nerf nerf has happened with each patch if you had more than 7 hours play you would have seen)

2 - It happens alot, hell read play some forumfield 3 its a major whine from people

3 - You miss my point entirely the cheaters are deeply woven in the game. When there are banwaves there are often players caught out with 1000 or more hours play and colonel 100, even youtubers have been caught the problem is massive and the cheaters are often clever and discrete.

4 - Again you miss my point... can you actually read or do you jsut randomly decide what was written? I didnt say DLC is bad, I said the maps often have poor design that shows a lack of QC or testing, I should not need to spam my spacebar 14 times to vault a trench that is designed to be vaulted out of jsut because the rubble is at silly angles.

5 - You have played 7 hours... nuff said you are a noob so prob aint even unlocked new camo

6 - The point is they are clearly something they thought of at the office party while drunk, we paid for this stuff so expecting some quality and thought is not too much to demand

1: Like I said, just use what you want. If they make it about preference, why is that bad? Guns in general are similar when they use the same round.
3: Maybe it's more of a PC only thing then.
4: Understood. And I have not had any vault issues that were not my own fault.
5: Oh yes. I am a noob when I have played over 1100 hours across 5 different Battlefield games dating back to BF1942.
I have seen noobs, they are arrogant, they have spam-like tactics. Oh, also, I have unlocked 2 camo's in game in the over 7 hours I have played.
6: They are reasonable assignments. 150 kills is not that bad. (I only looked at weapon unlocks as I do not care much for camo).
FYI, I hate noobs, factually I am NOT a noob. Deleted the insulting and disrespectful part of your post, don't feel like getting my post deleted by a mod for quoting disrespect.

Edit: Another FYI, I still play BF2 (AIX mod and FH2 mod) as well as BF3.

2: Yes, because they should totally make the AK much more powerful than the M16 and make the AK's have the same firepower as a 7.62x51mm round rifle. Realism, mate. Most guns are similar in firepower anyway.
3: Sounds like a personal problem? I was on the U.S. side and won by only losing ~170 tickets out of 1,000. Forgot what the map was called.
3b: Commander was only in one Battlefield, I assume no VOIP is a PC version problem. No teamwork sounds like a personal problem as well.
4: Sounds like a personal internet problem, or PC version problem. But yeah, that sounds like it sucks.
5a: Note: Walk. Try sprinting? tongue.gif

Was never really impressed with BF3 other than the pretty graphics and the capabilities of Frostbite 2.0

I still love BFBC2 to this day and its my favorite shooter/battlefield game to date.

Im just waiting for the next Bad Company and hoping its just as amazing as BFBC2 still is.

Im also thinking about trying out Aftermath, I've heard its the best DLC yet and the maps are really well made. I am a Premium member, so I guess i should reinstall to try it out.

Wow. Bad Company 2 was one the worst BF's I have ever played, for me and my tactician brain at least.

In the end we can hate on BF3 all we want but in reality there is no better fps in PC then BF3.

the whole Vent/Mumble/TS argument only works if you have friends playing this game

Personally I only know 1 friend who owns this game on PC

it's bad enough there's no voIP built-in natively...but NO ONE seems to spot any more compared to BF2...it's quite pathetic...sure BF2 commander did 50% of the spotting but still...may be i'm just playing on CoD-like servers

I called you a noob as with 7 hours play time in BF3 that is what you are a new player... deal with it.

Doesn't matter how many hours you have in other BF games that does not qualify you to bash players views (with vastly more hours than you) at this game, which is precislely all you have done to anyones critical views on parts of BF3 in this thread you even rudley labeled my initial post as "Biased Rant"... that a pretty ignorant way to act.... also as I am a BF3 player and premium member care to define how my "rant" qualifies as bias? bias to what exactly?

Premium assignments don't even relate to weapons they are all camo/weapon camo/dogtag related so you again dismiss a point I made then show me here you didn't even comprehend what I wrote.

Guns in general are not similar but I'm not going to debate the performance of reallife military weapons here - yes similar calibres do similar harm but we talk about not just damage but the spread, recoil, ROF and other factors that have been largely nerfed to be identical (or near to) with many weapons in this game.... it wasnt always like that this has happened with the patches.
