[Kotaku] The Good And Bad of Battlefield 3, One Year (Or So) Later - Page 6

BF3 is the reason I left consoles and built my first PC. As you can see by my current rig it has become a hobby of mine. I have premium service and have absolutely loved every DLC that has released. Every DLC has been so different, almost feels like a new game with every DLC release. Keep up the good work Dice thumb.gif

3.No commander? AND no Voip? Worse than Call of Duty on the teamwork front.
4.The game is also developed for consoles. Game clearly had to be scaled down. Also, ditch the campaign!!
5.COD-like DLC
6.The whole Battlelog thing is complete nonsense too. It's horribly unintuitive and the server browser is complete trash.
7.As long as PS2 is out, BF3 is quite obsolete.

3. No commander isn't a big deal (only one BF in the series had it). It has VIOP just not public and most people use Mumble anyway.

ef.

How can you say that? BF2 had it and that is the game that made the Battlefield franchise what it is today. It's one in the series, but by far the most important one.

Having an argument over something so clearly subjective is....strange. Either you like it or don't. I respect your opinions either way. Even if they're stupid........j/k biggrin.gif

Coke, Pepsi or neither.

I love playing BF3. I'm having great fun with it.

I like battelog and the browser, for me it's a plus, not a minus.

I do have the annoying camo not sticking problem though. When I choose one, quit and come back to play later, I have to re-choose my camo again. Small, but irritating problem.

Would love to have VOIP integrated into the game. That, you have to admit is an annoying oversight or some kind of technical limitation they don't want to admit to.

On the sameness of guns?? as someone said, that is somewhat "realistic" for lack of a better word. It's nato 5.56x45mm or 7.62x51mm versus warsaw pact / Russian 7.62x39mm or 5.45x39mm for the most part with a myriad of other rounds. Minus some varying ballistic characteristic's of each platform, they'll all perform fairly similarly on the terminal end of things. You don't want that? I don't know what to tell you. That's how it is and, of course, I'm speaking in general.

Overall, I really enjoy the game. That is my subjective opinion on BF3.

Bf1942 is what made the series, I would rather they would have removed the commander who was a useless teamkiller most of the time and brought back the naval ships and huge tank and air maps.

As for bf3; to me it is the only game that provides exceptional infantry and vehicle combat. For example Planetside 2 scale is like no other, but the infantry combat just flat out sucks, and unlocking guns and upgrades is the longest grind ever unless you pay. Also yes you are serious disadvantaged if u do not have these upgrades for example not having flares or missiles etc in planetside 2 you are doomed against other players. Bf3 is the same but it takes no where as long to unlock these things.

But ad hominem attacks and grandstanding your own apparent ability to judge the differences in the game rather than actually displaying either evidence or logical reasoning really annoys me.

Actually I question a 7 hour player (by anyones standard not experienced) to dismiss the views of all others that posted what they saw as shortfalls here..... try reading the whole thread.... I don't claim my views must be correct but I do take offence at them being dismissed as "Biased Rant" and also that the reasons they are then dismissed are not even related in some cases to the points I listed showing they were attacked for the sake of it not even on the basis of the person reading/comprehending what I wrote.

Maybe before attacking me you should read the whole thread properly rather than grandstanding your own (failed) ability to judge.

Over 7 hours to me is a lot (20+ hours to you). I've been in ~15 matches. Longest lasting over 1 hour. I have played every class for over an hour. I am best as support, engineer and medic. Recon is my worst area. I apologize for the name I chose for your points. I should have just wrote "rant" like my original intentions were. Even though your rant was biased, I could have avoided saying it.

I think BF3 is the best shooter released in the past 3-4 years. Probabally since the original Modern Warfare.

1. Best in class gunplay. Guns just feel and sound amazing. Very similar to real life counterparts. CoD is always brought up as having really good tight gunplay but I honestly think BF3 blows just about every other game out of the water in this category.
2. Balance makes sense. I really like how weapon damage corresponds to caliber sizes. This does create some low ROF weapons that aren't all that great but I think it's a good thing in the end. Just feels good to shoot in this game.
3. Graphics are just amazing. The DLC maps especially are just fantastic in the visuals department.
4. Sound is amazing. Best in class even.
5. The DLC was actually worth it. B2K maps are some of the best battlefield maps ever made. I personally loved CQ. People say it strayed from the 'battlefield' formula but it also gave the game a chance to show off what it does better then anything else out there and that is straight infantry combat. No game feels as good. Armored Kill was probabally a mis-step especially on console but we'll forgive them as Aftermath completely taps into that B2K vein and is bringing people back.

6. Oh yeah and battlelog? Was actually pretty awesome. The stats pages are easy to navigate and give a lot of information. Server browser is perfectly functional. Going in I thought this would be a nightmare and honestly I think it's a strength. Kudos to whoever put this together.

Now there are some bad things.

1. Netcode. Obviously it could be better. Pretty much everyone who complains about it blows it totally out of proportion but it could without a doubt be better.
2. Some lingering balance issues. Jets are pretty hard to balance in general. In fact I'm not sure jets are even possible to balance. M16 is still the best gun in the game. Honestly though I love the m16. wink.gif
3. Launch could have gone better.
4. Lingering bugs.
5. Some maps were clearly designed for a lower playercount and turn into total meatgrinders. Looking at you Metro 64 Rush.

Can't think of much other then that. I've 'retired' from the game now after about 300 hours since last year. I've decided to make a go at planetside 2 and I'm the type who can really only concentrate on one game at a time. Still BF3 honestly goes down as one of my favorite all time shooters. I'm wary of saying 10/10 simply because the amount of hyperbole around games is crazy sometimes but I really feel like DICE hit it out of the park. I think the people who point to games like CS or Quake 3 are missing the point. Fact of the matter is that the modern shooter is popular because it's fun to play. Battlefield 3 in my eyes is the height of that game type. Will have very fond memories of this one and looking forward to 4.

Please go on about 1-3 because I never noticed those things.

LAWL! DLC is so cheap. Premium was only $50 a long time ago. $50 is like 2-3 hours of work max, even for poor people. And LAWL again at those noobs who want VOIP in game. Obviously you haven't been playing pc games for very long and don't have very many friends. LAAWLLLL
