Recommended power supply? - Page 6

Go with a seasonic X PSu or a XFX pro PSU they are very very powerful and very clean and stable power . The XFX is a seasonic X with a XFX casing on it very cool stuff so if you dont like how the seasonic looks then you can go with a black and gray theme

Not going for looks at all, on a mean budget. I will probably be using an old windows 95 beige MicroATX as my case hahahaha.
I have settled for an FSP Group 650W power supply because it has 80+ cert and actually delivers 650W. I know the Seasonic will deliver what it states but it is out of my budget.

Hay you cant go wrong with FSP I love there PSU's also and they do deliver great power thumb.gif

I have changed from the Gigabyte HD7970 with the 3 fans and factory overclock to the Sapphire reference design. This saved $50. Was it worth it? Is the reference cooler capable of overclock on the GPU?

Yes, you can overclock with that heatsink.

My specific power supply isn't an FSP Everest, its a Raider. (Don't know the difference, just stating that the model is different). I got my information from this review which was very good (he examined the internals with oscilloscopes etc.)

Is constant 82C too hot? Because that is what it gets up to when overclocked with reference cooler based on some benchmarks. Whereas the Gigabyte one with 3 fans was a bit quieter and only reached about 61C.

The Gigabyte one is the one in the middle and the REFERENCE cooler one is the bottom one.

Do you think the extra $40 is worth it? (I said in previous posts it costed $50 more, but it is actually $40).

I was pointing out that FSP makes a mix of good PSUs and bad ones. You were making the generalization that all FSP PSUs are good. I just wanted to clarify that they aren't. I even recommended a good FSP PSU earlier in this thread.

Are you asking if it's worth $40 more for an aftermarket design over reference? If that's the case, yes, it is.

just so you know I was not making a generalization of anything. I was mearly stating that FSP is a good company, Every compony when it comes to PC's has good and bad parts, or faulty parts. Nothing in this world is perfect.

Let me repeat myself for the third time, XFX Core 550 or FSP Raider 450 (if you want something cheap).... the higher output versions of the FSP Raider are not good.
