Which CPU voltage to trust?

Thread Starter
I know that for a prescott CPU I should be trying to keep my CPU voltage under 1.55v, but which value should I believe...

1. The CPU Voltage setting in my mobo's BIOS?

OR...

2. The CPU voltage readings I get in either Speedfan or CPU-Z...?

The values in the latter option read much lower than what I have set in the bios...

eg. My BIOS cp voltage is set to 1.532v..the software readings are showing 1.44 - 1.45 volts...

Software will never be exactly accurate as you will always encounter Analogue > Digital conversion errors.

When your computer is idle the Potential Difference (Voltage) given to the CPU will be different than the value specified. When the processor operates in a "load" state the voltage will be very close to the specified voltage, however it will never be exactly accurate as the MOSFTES are unable to effectively work with the exact voltage you have requested.

Judging by those results I would suggest that the software is reading its data correctly and therefore you should trust both the BIOS and software to a degree (take 5% possible error).

Thanks for that...

Is it the case then that the Bios CPU voltage setting is a maximum value? (ie, the max voltage that will be supplied to the CPU)??
