Upgrade Question

Thread Starter
I've done the wattage calculators, 2 different kinds and they've told me that after about a year my psu wont be able to sustain the wattages i need. So when i upgrade my psu hopefully in febuary should i get a larger psu say in 1000 wattage so that i can add components if need be and keep it longer or just keep replacing the psu as it gets older and cant handle the watts. I am going to eventually add 2 more sticks of ddr3 and either get a gtx670-690 or get another Asus gtx570 and possibly liquid cool the thing. Thanks for you help!

Yes, getting an extra 200 or so watts of power is very nice for future upgrade plans. smile.gif
post #3 of 10
1000 is overkill. get a 650 if you're going for gtx 670 (even with sli). kepler doesn't consume as much power as it's predecessor. if you're going to add another 570, then 750w would suffice.

I guess to play it safe id get an 800. I'll probably end up wanting to Oc my CPU. Right now my cooler keeps it below 60c under load. I have tried to oc my Asus 570 with no luck. But that's another thread in another section. Thanks for your answers sofar. Its really cool being able to talk to other people about computers and components and having them actually follow along and have more to say than me. tongue.gif

No, your 680s and your 3570K system isn't even approaching 700W at full load.

@OP, keep your current PSU (it's a very solid one) and consider buying a new one if and when you decide to add a second card... at this point it's a pointless, needless expense.
