The Last of Us (PS3) - Page 2

I would love to see naughty dog make something for the PC. Uncharted and GOW were the only reason I got a PS3 (along with being one of the best bluray and internet media player out there).

They were well textured, but the models were hit and miss. Psycho's face was the only one I remember standing out as being particularly good. The Koreans... not so much. And as you mentioned, the animations looked completely artificial, in a game that was otherwise aiming for realism.

I would rank Mass Effect 2&3, BF3, The Witcher 2, Uncharted 2&3 and GoW3 ahead in that regard, and that's just off the top of my head.

Regardless you spend most of the game not looking at characters' faces, but at the environment.
That really depends on the game. Have you played The Walking Dead?

Console games such as The Last of Us and Uncharted can't come close in this regard.
True, but in story-driven action and RPG games, the big payoffs usually come from cutscenes, where faces matter the most. These games are definitely top tier in that regard. biggrin.gif

Well every game should have realistic animations, lol. Yeah the typical NPCs in the Crysis games looked alright, it was only the main characters that had very good models. Animations can't touch Uncharted, which will probably be king in that regard until The Last of Us and the new MGS game. Budget would be the reason for that.

I'll take decent character models/facial animations like in Skyrim/TW2, combined with fantastic looking environments, over console graphics with above average facial animations any day of the week. But that's just my opinion of course.

Uncharted 2 and 3 have better graphics than most pc games in terms of quality of textures and animations, and how much they pack into each scene.

Textures no, animations yes. Overall environmental quality exceeds most multiplatform games, though the fact that they're limited to 720p with no AA hurts a lot.

LA Noire had amazing facial animations and detail, I really do hope they'd incorporate whatever they did with LA Noire into GTA V. thumb.gif

I also did play LA Noire on a PS3, which is even better considering what they managed to do on a 6 year old piece of hardware.

The fact the ps3 is stuck at 720p is the killer, when I can play games at 1440p the graphics are much with the same game, if consoles could push 1440p it would be a fair trade and I'm sure The Last of Us would nuke most PC titles. Is the Ps4 going to have higher res?

PS4 games are up to 1080p.
