Unless that huge file you're referring to is 120~240GB in size (400MB/s * 60s/min * 5~10min), you're probably getting bottlenecked by the CPU or something (likely some decompression or initial processing).

Hmm, with stock low due to all the recent sales, the Samsung 830 may not go back down to prices we've previously enjoyed. Despite the Samsung 840 Pro and other newer SSDs being better performers, I suspect demand for the Samsung 830 is starting to outpace supply as there are those would still go with the older model for the proven reliability track record.

Okay, so I guess I will wait for the 840 pro to go on sale!

Edit: The cheapest I can find the 830 256GB version is $200. The 840 series is only about $25 cheaper (afaik). Do you think I should buy it at this price? Of course if the 840 Pro will drop to $200 around Christmas time I'll get that instead. What do you think?

Thanks

You don't think the Samsung would do this faster than the Crucial? I'm looking at the 830 now because it appears to be better. So I'll either buy a Crucial M4 now for $160 or wait until the 830 goes on sale again.

Edit: Crap, there isn't a single new 830 under $200 left! I might have to wait until Christmas until we see another price drop, because they're all $200 and above now, which is ridiculous.
lol, thats what happens when it is discontinued.

I voted for the 840 although I would take whichever is cheaper between it and the M4.

Don't discount Corsair in the ssd department though. The Force 3 is a sandforce based ssd using the sandforce 2281 controller and pcb. Nothing about it is Corsair.

Their new neutron series will be just fine.

the samsung 840 uses TLC nand which is inferior and no track record for reliability. I believe the 830 was discontinued which is why the remaining drives on the net are so overpriced. M4's tend to stop working after a year of use because of buggy firmware.

Jeez so many good SSD's out there! It seems like the Samsung 830 and the Plextor M5P go neck and neck, especially with the new firmware update?:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6505/plextor-releases-firmware-102-for-the-m5-pro-promises-100k-iops

So for the same price, would you guys still get the Samsung 830 over the M5P?

I guess any of these will blow my Force 3 out of the water thumb.gif
